These graphs are fascinating! It shows that smokers who convert to snus live virtually as long as ex-smokers who quit tobacco all-together. Snuson members are strong advocates of harm-reduction; this graph further proves their claims. Not only is snus virtually harmless, but it could save lives. There are people who are genetically predisposed to nicotine addiction that can not quit smoking, regardless of willpower. The FDA should research this article and push the use of snus in America as a viable alternative to cigarettes.

Thats a good visual to help me get my 34 year old friend to switch.

Maybe we could put together a bunch of this kinda stuff in one place for easy copy and pasting?

I'm a firm believer that alcohol induced liver failure will kill me long before I give cigarettes the chance to... But I still like being able to present this information to people who frown on my tobacco use :-D

You say that until you watch your mother die relatively young because of lung cancer caused by smoking that spread to her brain. Like I did. Tobacco use is fine, but cigarettes always will be an unnecessarily disgusting habit for people to have. There are so many other forms of getting nicotine like snus, nasal snuff, etc. Nicotine itself isn't an issue, but a lot of people don't realize that. Anywho, cool graph.

Excellent information we can use to be proactive in preventing anti-smoking types from becoming anti-tobacco proponents. Harm reduction is not universally embraced now, and it needs to be.

Snus and nasal snuff, in particular, do not endanger or irritate others with second-hand byproducts. They satisfy without societal harm. That's a point we need to always make in discussing our practice with others.

Why can't everyone see the benefits of embracing reduced-risk products like snus and snuff?
