Health Perception of the Swedish general public?

I was talking to a Swedish guy in his mid-twenties about snus and he said, and I quote: "I don't have any statistics but they say it's as bad if not worse than smoking, because you have it in your mouth for so long, and when it's done it's easy to start another."

Here in Australia we have a lot of anti-smoking commcercials on television that have, over the years, become more and more graphic.
I wonder about the general perception of snus in Sweden, how the public percieve it in terms of health... Whether there are similar advertising campaigns demonising the habit, or whether the GothiaTek standards are well known...

    Does anyone know?

Hehehehe, I wouldn't be surprised if the Swedish gov't said snus was as bad as smoking because it's still tobacco.
A former girlfriend of mine lives in Stockholm and according to her, Sweden is nanny-state #1 (which she likes). They only stop short of telling you how to **** in your own bedroom lest you do something denigrating to your girl like tell her to dress up in a nurse's outfit.

The government actually sees snus as a good way to stop smoking. There has been some debate over that as it can be seen as recommending snus compared to recommending total abstinence.

What the media tries to tell us is another story...

FetFnask - I am very interested to discover what the general opinion on Snus and health is in Sweden bearing in mind Snus seems to have caused me some problems with my gums. What is the general cocencious of opinion? Surely not all Swedish people ran into the same problems as I did? and also do your dentists and doctors frown on it and tell you you should give it up and it is as bad for you as smoking?
