    Deep Gum Cleaning

I just got my first check up in 3 years from a new dentist. I asked about my gum recession due to snus. She said that my gums are at 2-4mm and that I'd need a deep cleaning. This procedure is thousands without insurance and requires some giant needles, I wasn't too thrilled. The dentist cleaned 1/2 my mouth and I go in for the other half tomorrow.
Now I have only been using snus for 2 years and I've had 2 cavaties up until this point in my life (22). I brush and use mouthwash twice a day and floss. My 'cleaned' side feels no different or cleaner than the other side of my mouth. I feel duped in a way. I feel like this was unnecissary and will probably not get the other side cleaned.
Have any of you had this deep cleaning procedure? Was it worth it?
    Any other problems with dentists?

I've never heard of this. It sounds a little bogus to me. I'm not a dentist of course, but for the money you're talking about, I think it would be best to get a second opinion.

I had this done about a year ago. It removes plaque below the gum line. Look at x-rays before and after. You will be able to see the plaque is gone. I did not buy it at first but after six months gums are back to normal, very little loss, nice and pink. Hurts like a bitch afterwards.

        Good luck

Check with another dentist...people who need this are usually much older and to put it nicely, do not have the best dental hygiene. If you brush 2 times a day, floss, and use a good mouth wash, you should not have any problems with snus. I think this is the result from not brushing well along the gum line. My father had this done, and he never smoked or used any tobacco products....just the result of not brushing well enough over the years.

I would say you're fine, especially at 22. If it looks well and feels well, don't go looking for trouble. If anything, check with another professional. If they said there was a growth or something, then you should get all the procedures done....but a deep gum cleaning at 22!? Idk man.

After not going to the dentist for years I had to do this same treatment. (Both Sides). In my early thirties. Plaque just builds up and they need to numb your gums to get at it without too much pain. They know you are screwed and that is why they charge for it.
Since then and being off the smokes and 3 cleanings a year my gums are fine. I suggest you do the other side or the deep pockets will cause bigger problems.
