If you're serious about being a slave to nicotine, then by all means. As long as you know that it's not exactly a walk in the park to leave it behind down the road.

So, if you're familiar with how and why nicotine is addictive and don't want to stop using it, you are far better off using snus than smoking or using dip.

Other respondents in this thread are right to tell you "don't do it", because it's never a good idea to be hooked on anything, let alone nicotine.

As far as snus is concerned, there have been stories about how it will lead you to all kinds of ailments, but so far (as far as I know) there are no documented cases to speak of.

Don't do it. If anything, don't do it to keep the anti-tobacco nuts from having any more fuel to throw on their fires. Once you hit 18, feel free to use whatever kind of tobacco product you wish.

      Seriously.

Congrats on giving up dip, though.

Right now I have 2 cans of Camel frost.

Not to be a dick like most of the other fellow nicotine-addicts here, but reading this I also don't think you should be worried about the health-consequences of snus.

To be more serious, I think they are negligible anyway and I don't think that someone who doesn't profit from nicotine will become addicted.

Welcome to the forum ... and a few years from now you'll be able to make fun about people who ask the same questions that you are asking now.

        Cheers!

Besides the obvious naivety of coming on here at that age and expecting us to give you constructive advice about which tobacco to start using, you shouldn't strictly be here anyway:
I Agree to these terms and am over or exactly 18 years of age

Yea, I can't say I agree with facilitating tobacco use to anyone under 18. First off, this is the internet, this guy might be a plant. Furthermore, I don't think tobacco use in any form is necessarily healthy, I understand the harm-reduction approach. Yet, the members of this board may be not quite objective in giving any advice toward snus use. Oh, and nasal snuff is correlated pretty strongly to cancer of the nasal cavity and throat.

ok, my own extremely anecdotal experience:

anyone I know who is addicted to nicotine is even-tempered, focused, and good at budgeting

anyone I know who isn't addicted to nicotine is pretty unpredicatable. They have hissy fits, usually are addicted to wierder stuff(like facebook) and splurge their extra 1-7 dollars a day they don't spend on tobacco on pointless, time wasting vanities

I honestly can't think of an exception. but I also might just know a bunch of idiots.

It depends on how you define nasal snuff. There's some regional "blends" from 3rd world countries that are *highly* toxic, and will almost certainly give you various ailments. The problem isn't the tobacco, but the other agents that are added.

I've only seen 1 "study" that linked English/European nasal snuff with nasal cancer. It's from a doctor in mid 18c England. In reality I haven't even been able to find the study. I see it referenced all over, but I haven't been able to track down the actual document. I also read where he wasn't even a doctor, but an irate satirist that was angry with his tobacconist. I haven't found any credible information that supports that, but it does cast some doubt on the whole issue.

Snuff was still fairly common through the 19th century, and if it caused medical problems, I would expect to see some empirical studies, and anecdotal evidence fingering blame. Cigarettes were known as coffin nails looong before science had the necessary proof .

Until they run out, and then it's the complete opposite.

                      Just making a point.

I just don't think it's a good idea to start something that you didn't really need before, but now have to have and spend money on, all the while *possibly* harming your health.

I don't think any of ever started with medicinal nicotine, did we? I started at 16 because I'd been drawn to it, but also wanted to be cool and rebellious.

It's probably the worst idea to tell a young person to NOT do something, because it's human nature to then want to do it even more. The best we can do, I think, is treat the kid with respect and just let him know as best as we can what he's getting himself into. Chances are he'll have to learn the hard way, like the rest of us did.

Yay! Now it's my turn to be a bitch here!!! I no longer visit smpost because of all the teeny boppers telling each other how to sneak dip in class, best dip hiding places, how to obtain dip underage, etc...etc...I hope snuson doesn't turn into this sort of site.

Amen. This doesn't need to become a place for kids to talk about their totally rad nic habits.

I understand the kid's plight. I was in his shoes five years ago. But really, I don't want to see this place become overrun by nicoteenyboppers.

If I sound a little irked it's because I am. My seventeen year old sister just broke it to me that she's been smoking. It was the last thing I ever wanted her to get into.

(Edit: I noticed a spelling error. Moving on...)

Come on guys he's 15. Yeah most of us started well under age. But we have the knowledge to steer him clear of being a slave. Sure its snus today maybe smoking will look really cool tomorrow. Don't give him any advice. Imagine if it was your kid here.

And i will be a dick to minors, i just wish some one was a dick to me when i started down the wrong path.
