No additive cigarettes (natural spirit) VS. Snus

I know tar is something present in cigs and not in snus. Any other health benefits to switching to snus?

Tobacco Specific Nitrosamines (TSNA's) are one of the carcinogens found in tobacco. Cigarette smoke contains a much higher concentration than snus. In fact, today's snus carries a minuscule amount. Plus, snus won't give you emphysema...

The things that cause cancer are largely created when you burn or heat tobacco. So any tobacco that is smoked is always gonna be way worse for you than tobacco taken orally or sniffed. In addition, breathing the results of that combustion means you are breathing in carbon monoxide and other fun stuff.

Yes, non additive cigarettes are probably safer. Same as saying it is marginally safer to drive while texting, brushing your teeth, and putting on mascara vs driving while texting, putting mascara, brushing your teeth, reading the newspaper AND drinking coffee. Neither is very safe, correct?

Snus is even safer than American dip because snus is pasteurized, and not heat cured. The heat curing causes the rise in TSNA's

Smoking, anything, significantly increases your chance of dyeing prematurely. There is zero evidence that snus does the same.

        Case closed.

With all this said, I absolutely LOVE American Spirits. They taste like cigarettes should imo. Down to around 3-5 a day. Must..let..go..

What I love most about snus is I can have an occasional cigarette when that is what I want. Probably no more than one a month now.

Yeah, I've been smoking a few Nat Sherman Classics a day (also additive-free). I'd love to quit them altogether, but until there's a snus that is good while driving, I can't see myself quitting.

Like Sagedil was saying, inhaling any kind of combusted material is going to cause cancer at some point. American Spirits are probably just as bad if not worse than additive cigarettes, since they contain 25% more tobacco than traditional cigarettes. If you smoked additive-free cigarettes all your life as opposed to Marlboros, you would probably live three days longer. Here's a pretty interesting article about cigarette additives:

Cigs in the end would make me gag (dry heave) in the morning. i have been off cigs for over a week now just using snus.

For fun I tried a cig yesterday and it did not make me gag. But it no longer satisfied me in the way snus does. So that experiment out of the way I don't think I will smoke another.

harpdog, my point is should you decide you want one, hanging out with friends or such, you can have just that one and it won't matter in any way. It is the freedom to have that cigarette every blue moon that I cherish.

indeed, I see that 1 cigarette aint going to matter its not like it will set you off on a cig binge for a month.

Just remember, all cigarettes deposit tar in your lungs, additive-free or not:

I think I'll just stick to Chewlies Gum instead of cigarettes. (ooh and snus of course)

heh sorry a little off topic ... moving on...

                            Eek.

A good motivation not to smoke.

I just don't understand anyone who doesn't intend to quit.

You know how it is: out of sight, out of mind. If people's lungs were on the outsides of their bodies, I'm sure there would be far, far less smokers out there.

Didn't the U.K. have pictures like that on the backs of cigarette packs for a while?
