    Snus and Gum Disease

Does anybody know if snus causing gum disease only where it is in contact with your gums? I ask because I have inflammation in my gums above my top left molars. Is it snus related or do I just need to floss and rinse regularly?

I have been chewing leaf, dip and now snus for about 28 years and can not really connect it to gum problems. Your gums will become inflamed whenever you get crud in around the base of the tooth. Floss pulling both ends back around the tooth. Not just in between. Brush with the bristles at a 45 degree angle to the gums and see if it does not get better.

It shouldn't really cause trouble. But especially if you're a löser, step up your oral hygeine a notch, especially flossing in between your teeth. Also, if you're not already, use a high quality mouthwash. I use Biotene PBF--not sure if it is available in the UK, and it's a bit pricey, but it seems to work very well.

Yeah, my oral hygiene has got a bit lax since coming to uni, I used to brush twice a day and floss daily, but now I only brush once a day.

I used to brush just once a day. using dip and snus much more, I stepped it up to about 3 times a day vigorous brushing.

interestingly, my dental health is a bit better using oral tobacco simply because I'm paying attention to it more.

I found that I could greatly fight imflammation by using "dry mouth" toothpaste. This was more neccesary when snusing all day, I can only assume because of the higher salt content.

Mouth wash it quite good as well, It gets rid of any 'hidden' snus.
