I have to agree but i would like to go with electrostimulation therapy IF I get bad as I got before and needing more mgs. Of my antidepressant. Dont think its affordable though. The pills saved my butt, again. I resent them and i dont like their side effects but this low dose is much more tolerable. They do help with chronic pain more than i realized, even at the low dose. Twking more does not make any difference. I found out more wbout that last year so a low dose of antidepressant such as I take helps with chronic pain as much as the high dose i was on for awhile. This good because things like Ibuprofen are hard on the liver and stomach lining. Antidepressant isnt so great on the liver but you need so much less to good effect to help with pain. No, it doesnt work like opoids but it makes a difference alright

I am amazed with my Prozac actually. I've been on it for over 2 years now and other than the first 2 weeks of being on it being a living hell, not too much if any in the way of side effects. The only noticeable things are that it's lowered my alcohol tolerance somewhat and that if I forget my pills for a week, I still feeling a bit on edge. Honestly though, it's worked wonders. I went from constantly being paranoid and worried about things, to this happening considerably less. I don't have as much of a temper as I used to have and am a bit more patient and level headed. Since I quit smoking, I've felt a lot better too. Maybe because for better or worse, I really increased the amount of nicotine I consume.. to the point where I am nauseous and light headed.Originally posted by FayloolI have to agree but i would like to go with electrostimulation therapy IF I get bad as I got before and needing more mgs. They come in so many varieties! If you get the wrong one....watch out! But when you get the right one....thanks be to the higher powers! I took Prozac. It was my second variety. At the one month mark i had to change. It was a little weird. I used to do yoga, mostly the tretching and breathing in the right way so it turns into a altered state of emotional balance. I would find emotional well being doing my yoga for many years. But this one session i was so surprised to achieve this new state of being one month invto Prozac. My thoughts and feelings went to embracing the concept of death as a wonderful thing! My logical mind of course said whoa! This is weird. It happens that way with some people. Its a complcated deal. A persons chemistry can change and what works quits working and you get something new then later go back to the old one. Sometimes more, ometimes less and sometimes none. Ive been thru trazadone for sleeping, prozac, buspar, citalopram, lexapro , halcyon, wellbutrin and effexor. Im stuck with effexor and lots of yawning. No big deal

Prior to taking Prozac, I was very vehemently against any kind of antidepression medication. I was the biggest skeptic there could be, and feared the side effects after reading horror stories online. After years of my mom nagging me to take the plunge, I finally gave in. I was scared, but today I don't regret doing it. As I stated, I am a better person because of it. So much has changed in my life over this past year and mentally I would have been more of a train wreck than I was had it not been for Prozac.

SSRI's can screw you up though from my experience. Some worse then others. I cant tolerate them myself. I believe the SSRI increases dopamine too in my case, making my drug induced psychosis(if thats what it is) worse.
I think theirs a lot of evidence out their supporting the fact that SSRI's and other Psych drugs can trigger of psychosis and has been involved in many homicides.
Still if it works for you then it works, everyone reacts differently.

I agree with the last part of your post. Most people don't realize that drugs affect everybody differently. For example, most people love smoking weed. It makes them calm. For me, I get paranoid. Hence why I don't use marijuana. Also, while nicotine may make me more level headed, others could feel totally different. I don't feel there is a magic bullet with any substance. People just need to find what works for them.Originally posted by NeonMouseSSRI's can screw you up though from my experience. Some worse then others. I cant tolerate them myself. Zoloft is safer than Prozac from my experience, but nonetheless none of these drugs are safe after all.
Smoking will only mask your depression will not cure it.

You could rephrase that. You could say " smoking will only mask my depression not cure it" its funny how uncomfortable that might make you feel. I also agree that none of the drugs are safe really but sometimes its better than the alternative and why so many people try them.

Ive met a lot of people who get paranoid feeling on pot! I remember trying to go along with the group and just feeling claustrophbic and difficult to breath and paranoid. Just horrible stuff to me along with a really rank flavor.

Honestly though, all antidepressants do is mask depression as well. As of yet, there is no permanent cute for it. Just options to treat it.Originally posted by FayloolYou could rephrase that. Good point dman. Weed makes me feel like shit. Nicotine makes me feel good....so does alcohol in moderation.
I remember once when I couldnt sleep the doctor prescribed me a tricyclic anti depressant. It was awful....I thought my head was caving in and I was poisoned. Needless to say they were chucked in the bin.Ive never been depressed though but an old army mate has been suffering terribly for years. It took him a couple of years to find the antidepressant that worked for him and for the most part, hes fine now. The right anti depressant is key

Nicotine and alcohol in moderation is where it's at for me. I love being smoke free and still being wired on nicotine. I am probably more wired than when I was a smoker. Even though my last month or so of smoking was only social smoking.Originally posted by FrostedGood point dman. Weed makes me feel like shit.
