    Snus vs Cigs for depression

    Edit:

Basically I'm wondering if snus can combat suicidal/depressive tendencies as well as smoking.

Since it seems I've had some struggles with this since I've been trying to snus more.
To snus or not to snus. That is not the question

Dunno. Maybe try smoking the occasional cigarette. Three per day is still better than 20(or whatever), so maybe you can work it out that way.

My take on this is that snus ain't no miracle maker, so maybe is it worth checking with your local doctor to find out the reason for your problems

I would agree with the bits of advice given in that snus won't work miracles and also that smoking 5 cigs a day or whatever is better than 20. Yes there are MAOIs in snus - many more than NRT but perhaps not as many as smoking, i don't know. Maybe chat with your doctor about replacing/starting using something like an anti-psychotic medication. Best of luck, and let us know how you get on.

I've still smoked regularly since I started snussing (like, ten a week), but have never gone back to cigs full time. A few a day won't hurt. You'll probably find that the snus will become the favoured source of nicotine over cigs anyway, as it's just so much more pleasurable long term.

I suffered depression for a few years during my 5 years off all nicotine products, was on antidepressants and counselling and all that. Started snussing, felt better, it also allowed me to have a few cigs without relapsing completely. Been off the meds for a couple of years now, and my 90% snus 10% cigs diet seems to work quiet well for me. Still gfet a bit down at times, but nothing out of the ordinary.

But as Kevs said, still worth speaking to a Doctor, as depression shouldn't go unchecked, especially if you are having suicidal thoughts.

SnuserSnuffer, have you ever had any sort of counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy?

Mate go and see your doctor, sounds like there could be an underling problem. It could be nothing and just the switch from cigarettes, I really don't know as i am not a doctor. Best thing you can do is speak to someone who does know and them go from there. let us know how it goes.

When I suffered from depression, snuff helped. Maybe it´s not the smoke, but the speed of absorption you need. It might be worth a try. Snuff is cheap, buying a small tin and trying it should not hurt in any aspect.

I'd say that all the advice regarding the depression that has been given before is good advice. You shouldn't look to a tobacco product as the first port of call!

But having said that ... I tried the American Camel Snus and it made me depressed!

Get some proper Swedish stuff if you're going to give snus a decent chance - saying that you give up after camel is like trying a two day old cheap burger and then declaring that you're going veggie because all meat is rubbish.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.
