    Snus in Moderation

    Hello All,

I know many of you use snus as a smoking alternative and as a tool for quitting smoking.

However, I use snus because I enjoy the way it makes me feel. Sometimes I get a bit queasy and feel like I need to vomit, but the effect I feel while using snus is extreme relaxation and increased concentration.

With that being said, I try not to exceed two in a day. I do have cravings for it at times and can easily hold off on using one. I like to use maybe two one day and skip two or three days.

Can using snus in moderation really decrease my chances of addiction and possible disease/cancer?

    Thank you!

Also, I dont think I would ever want to try American brand snus/snuff simply because its much more carginogenic than Swedish brand snus.

Since smokeless tobacco poses a negligible increase in disease/cancer rate, there is no answer to your question; because you cannot go from having no increased health risk to having even less risk than that. Does that make sense?

As far as addiction, if you use a low-moderate amount, then your body doesn't have a chance to become dependent on a large amount. So you're better off keeping your intake low if you don't want your dependence to get any stronger.

I'm pretty sure most of the Chainsnusing Snusmongers on this site are all ex-smokers, so I think you'll be ok.

I would say just use as much as you want. Snus is very safe to begin with, why limit yourself so much?

Well im sure it cant be to good for your gums / teeth.

I just feel that limiting myself will not create any chance for dependence.

I have also never ordered it online and have always got it directly from sweden/norway from when I go or friends of mine come over here.

Dependance is habitual as well as physical. Even just using a snus 2x a day, every day for the same reason will create a habit/routine. That routine is sometimes the harder of the two to break.

Xobeloot is correct. When I started smoking as a teenager more than 10 years ago, I smoked only one cigarette per day. However, I just HAD to have that one cigarette as if my life depended on it. That habit progressed into smoking nearly two packs a day. I finally quit 2 months ago using snus, and I owe a lot to it. I still need the nicotine, as I find it keeps me level headed throughout the day, so I don't limit myself too much. I usually can get by with 4-5 portions per day, and I haven't experienced any gum problems as a result. Take good care of your mouth!

To each his own, but maybe you could try not having any for a day or two and see if it affects you. Then why bother. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about snus health effects. Swedes have been using it for centuries, and studies have not proven any ill effects.

If you brush good, your oral health should be fine.

You'll soon miss that feeling and start to chainsnus Skruf Stark or Nick & Johnny to get it back (no joke)!

I also don't think, that the moderation-thing works, addiction-wise. Moderation only helps to make it slightly easier if you one day decide to kick the habit.

Since the health effects of snus really seem to be more comparable with coffee (coffee may even be worse for your oral health) than with cigarettes, I guess the only alternatives are to fully kick the habit or to snus as much or as little as you want. Forced moderation is a bad idea IMHO.

                Cheers!

Is chainsnuser pretty accurate when he mentions snus's negative qualities being comparable to coffee?

Not directly comparable but on par with or below?

If so then I dont know why im limiting myself, I need to enjoy life and snus is very enjoyable!

What does it mean to chainsnus anyways?

Btw, thank you for your responses.

I'd define it as to replace a portion or prilla directly with the next one, so that you have snus under the lip almost all the time and keep your blood-nicotine on a constant level. Most snusers do so sooner or later, if I remember an old thread here correctly.

                    Cheers!

That's not hardcore. It's the normal behaviour of a nicotine-addict. Just wait a few weeks till you're used to the stuff!

I remember that feeling from my first cigarette, and then had about 3 more and nearly passed out. It doesn't take long for your body to get addicted, I only smoked a couple here and there and mostly socially, but then the nice headrush went and I just started smoking more.

I've found the nicotine much more noticable form snusing as it lasts longer and I feel more relaxed. I guess I pretty much chainsnus after lunch.

                            moderation snusing

Yeah I agree with Zobeloot as well. If you enjoy something then you will want to do it again. Nicotine increases the amount of dopamine in the pleasure centers of your brain. You only have to have this happen once to remember the feeling and want it again. Doesn't matter how many times you use it. As far as using less to reduce your cancer risk....of course. Snus has a extremely low cancer causing capability but; nonetheless, its still there. Even if you have to live to the age of 90 using snus daily to get it....its still there. But yeah, using it as much as you do will virtually eliminate any risk at all would imagine. Cancer is caused by the constant irritaion of a substance. In the case of of American dip, its the high concentration of nitrosamines that cause it. In the case of cigs, its the irritating factor of the smoke combined with the nitrosamines. With snus, since they are extremely low in nitro's....pretty much your only chance of getting cancer is if you snus in the same place daily for years. So change it up a bit heavy snuser. And for all you 'once a dayers', don't worry about it. And most importantly......what's wrong with you? :-p

And by the way Soliex, the reason why you get nausiated and feel like throwing up sometimes when you snus is because you have no tolerance for it. Your a new nicotine user everytime you use snus. Hahaha. If you want this to go away, up your intake to four times a day. If not, switch to the lil itty bitty minis.
