The big gainers were smokers and snus users who became completely abstinent from nicotine and tobacco.

But snus users and smokers who switched to snus didn’t gain any more weight than nonusers.

This is important news for smokers who are concerned about putting on pounds when attempting to quit smoking.

    Weight Gain Over Nine Years
    Among Men in Northern Sweden:

    Category Average (lbs)
    Nonusers (Referent group) 7.0
    Smokers 5.1
    Smokers who quit completely 15.0*
Smokers who switched to snus 7.9
    Snus users 6.8
Snus users who quit completely 11.2*

    *significantly elevated compared with nonusers

Depends on the type of weight that is gained. If it just fat, then that is not really that much of a positive.

Gaining 6 kg of fat is a bad idea at any base weight. You know working out might help with quitting. Gives you a new activity, stimulates the body and mind, and well help deal with the extra calories you are no doubt ingesting in trying to quit.

i think getting fat at a certain age is pretty normal... right after 50 when most people say ... "oh well i dont give a damn about how I look"

i can see them in Romania where most tradional foods are full of pork and beef meet and they very high in fats ... and believe it teenagers avoid these foods and the elder consume them like crazy.. not to mention that most 50 year olds completely neglect psychical activities.. at least here in Romania

scandinavian people are way different for example

As is the US, but let us not even start talking about SAD (Standard American Diet).

Fact is as you age your muscle mass deteriorates, and every bit of fat you put on is harder to get off with each year of inactivity. Only exercise can mitigate this.

If you substitute snacks for snus, you will pile on weight rapidly.Otherwise it will make no difference at all. Precious, stop stressing so much. You'll give yourself a heart attack through worrying about quitting so much.

                            lol

I am not stressed... gaining weight is what I want... I am only a little stressed because of the withdrawal...

im using gum and water for the last 24 hours and it helps quite a bit...
