    Snus for dinner?

Ok, finally I have gotten into loose (now that I have a freezer full of poritons). I ended up getting the Swedish Match sample on sale and I am loving the stuff. However, a couple of times I have been eating only to realize my snus is gone afterwards. Also, I will leave the snus in my lip for several hours, unless I need a different flavor or something, when I get rid of it the pris is usually about half the amount I started out with. Being a long time smoker, I have not had any reactions to the snus I have been swallowing. Considering I have been sucking on it for hours, I am half tempted to just rake the remaining amount with my toung and swallow when I am done. Is there an additional health risk swallowing the snus? I would think anything bad wouild come from the saliva I have been swallowing and digesting the remaining snus would not be a bg deal. However, I don't know and would like to get a few expert opinions on the subject. Thanks for any insite

I've wondered the same thing. My thinking on it is that it is more harmful, but not enough to matter. Kind of like taking the floor mats out of your car to get better gas mileage. Your gas mileage will improve, but you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference :^)

I don't worry about any little bit I might inadvertently swallow, but I certainly wouldn't make a practice of doing it on purpose, because it's not food.

I think that according to the Swedish government snus IS food. A little Landstoms sprinkled over a salad is delicious (disclaimer) and it's way easier than baking it up. I think the difference between sucking on it and swallowing it would be the fiber. But seriously I don't think your stomach lining would enjoy tobacco as much as your mucosa do and you really need to keep in mind the health of your pancreas. But I'm no expert!

Also keep in mind your digestive tract health, small concentrations of nicotine can kill beneficial bacteria in your intestines (oft times the nicotine is destroyed by the stomach, but if you're consuming significant quantities of tobacco, some can get through) this could lead to rather embarrassing gas and diarrhea.

Hm, maybe you should consider that snus can form nitrosamines in the acidic environment in the stomac. They are well known to cause cancer, even in small doses. Have a look here:
            http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/f-w00/nitrosamine.html

swalloing some snus occasionally may not kill you but I wouldn"t make it a habit...

Thanks for the responses guys, maybe I'll keep the snus in the lip and get a sandwitch for the stomac

Well on the bright side, tobacco has been proven to be extremely high in antioxidants and probably is high in fiber as well. Nicotene has also been proven to be very effective as a killer of small fauna and would, I think, be very effective as a vermifuge.
