We all love to quote all the research that says snus is virtually harmless and quote Brad Rodu and Phil Cole like they wrote the bible while chastising any anti snus research. So I got to thinking today, they say we are risking cancer, we say they are nazi liars, each side has "research" proving its own agenda. There are studies linking snus to oral cancer. There are studies saying snus has NO risk of any cancers and could save lives. I have never seen anything that is so polarized I got to thinking how can there be research saying snus is harmless AND harmful. Something doesn't make sense. I love snus, I would be cramming it in my mouth regardless, as I've switched over from dip about 6 months ago and my mouth feels way healthier. Am I just going crazy at work or has anyone else wondered this? How is there research on both sides and how do we, the consumer, know who to listen to?
An interesting (or stupid) thought

I keep wondering that myself as snus seems too good to be true. All I can tell you is that I have searched the net for hours trying to find a legitimate study showing snus is even remotely harmful and I have yet to find one. Also, whenever you see any articles telling you how bad snus is for you, they never tell you the source of their information or by what studies they are using to come to that conclusion. As lxs would say, snus has been around for 200 years. I know of one old man who may have gotten cancer from snus. Show me another person who got cancer from snus and I will give you a cookie.

I know I compiled a lot of articles for my site:
http://www.snubie.com/health.html
Larry also has a pretty big collection
http://www.snuscentral.org/snus-reso...her-Resourses/
Then if you check the Swedish Match site they have a lot too
http://www.swedishmatch.com/en/Snus-and-health/
There's also a section at SnusOn pertaining to this.
http://www.snuson.com/forum/forumdis...nus-amp-Health
Hope that helps, lots of good ammo there.

Its tobacco. Its "possible" you will get cancer. Despite all the controversy, I still like my chances with snus much better than with cigarettes.

No more dirty looks from the people around me at the park when I'm spitting black ooze in a bottle haha

Lol, that's because your from Alabama man. Round there the whole spitting in a bottle thing is way common, but in some places (like most of california or the west coast) people think it's way nastier than smoking or anything else for that matter. When I moved back from the south and was dipping around everyone, you'd have thought I took a giant shit and was smearing it on the walls or something, because that's how people reacted to it. Like they couldn't believe I would do it in public kind of thing.
But I agree, tell them to **** off and mind their own god damned business. And since when is it not fashionable to dip at a baseball game? Damn the times are changing.

I only used dip one time and through the course of that 1 can I couldn't count the amount of dirty looks I got. I actually had people standing there smoking on more than one occasion say "thats nasty" especially women. I wouldn't not use dip over it I just prefer snus by far. It's just something I observed.

I think it's all about the "all tobacco is bad" mentality.
I think the worst thing about it is the elevation of BP. However small the increase is still there. Sure it's fairly harmless when you're young and your aorta can flex well to absorb the increase but as we get older it stiffens...some more than others...and that causes the BP increase to travel farther and have negative effects. That and the salt intake is increased which also lends itself to higher BP.
I think I'm smart about it so far as I've taken logical steps to mitigate these things. Extra potassium, fiber, and exercise are the three big things I've changed since starting snus four years ago. At any rate, it ends up being better for my body than smoking butts and not working out. ~5% as harmful as smoking is pretty good in my book.

Sometimes (lately) I do a 50-50 mix of LS V8 with 100% Carrot Juice --- potassium: 310mg per 8 fl. oz. serving and 150mg sodium. Plus the Beta Carotene Vitamin A is a boon for aging eyes. The addition of carrot juice also makes a good change-up from straight V8.
Added bonus: goes great with many of the snus I use.
btw, the Strawberry Banana Smoothie I sometimes drink when snusing contains 475mg of potassium.
I used to do bananas but they over-ripen too fast for me.

Yes there seems to be a lot of conflicting research out there. One thing I've noticed is that when the nay sayers get down on snus they usually lump it in with dip. That way they think they are proving their point. I've even seen research from the same doctor saying twp different things in twp different years. Rodu has no reason to lie, but the anti tobacco zealots do. Just my opinion
