Snus and health insurance

My most recent insurance form asked about 'any nicotine usage in the past 12 months' and in the sub-question it said to answer yes if you used patches or gum. Seems strange though that a 2-pack a day smoker would be considered the same risk as someone using a few snus a day, but my guess is that differentiating would hurt the bottom line (and be harder to prove).

It's just about the money. Smoker? Cha-ching! They'd probably charge you extra for being black if they had the chance. Can't put much past them at this point.

Exactly! More and more forms and signs are switching from "No Smoking" or "Are you a smoker" to "Tobacco Free" and "Do you use tobacco"

The disturbing trend is what started as a push to end the dangers of 2nd hand smoke is turning into a full on ban of all tobacco products. When companies and hospitals will not let you use snus because they are tobacco free they have gone too far. What difference does it make to THEM if I have a portion in my mouth if I am not affecting anyone else?
