Ooooh...a brave soul. I still haven't mastered the art of straight razor shaving. I can get a good shave with a straight, but nothing like the shave I can get with my DE's.
Regarding after shave...guys, you all need to try Booster's after shave. You can pick some up at www.westcoastshaving.com it's only like $10 for 14oz, and lemme tell you, it's fantastic! A little alcohol gives you that "bracing" your face needs after a shave, plus a little burn. It also has glycerin to soothe an moisturize the skin. I've tried countless aftershaves over the last 8-9 months...and I keep coming back to Booster's. It's just great juice. Give it a shot ;-)

I can see that this has it's advantages over my Mach3. I was cleaning out an older family members house and I came across this so I cleaned it up, bought some blades and soap and had at it. My skin burned like the dickens for a while after but I'll get used to that I suppose. Also, aftershave would probably help too but I like the closeness of it.
Nice! Although that brush is history. Youll be amazed how much a new brush, or at least a new set of bristles can make. The difference in lather can be astounding.
I'm surmising that I'd probably want to mimic the angle of the Mach3. Sure the blade is different but I certainly haven't gotten it right yet.
Actually, youll be surprised how much the angles are not the same. With the Mach3, you have the razor perpendicular, almost level, with your skin. With a DE, the angle is much higher, youre gonna feel like youre holding the thing at a 90 degree angle to your skin. More than likely this is where your irritation is coming from. That, and proper lather can make all the difference in the world. Like Ive said before, watch Mantic59's youtube videos on making lather. Great education!

I can't +1 this enough....I was using a Tweezerman for many many months, then broke down and bought a Simpson Colonel XL2 in Best Badger....and dear god, the difference is ridiculous. Well worth the money and if you're serious about DE or even just wetshaving with a brush and soap, I highly recommend buying a high quality brush. It makes a difference.
Three suggestions, you could try the HeadBlade, but as another member mentioned,it has got mixed reviews, such as the wheels popping off, etc.,there is a similar product to HeadBlade, called the RayzorBlade, better than HeadBlade in my opinion, because it has no wheels, and you can use it by feeling your scalp as you go,last is the CleanHead by Conair, and electric shaver for the head, the foil follows the contours of your head, but like any electric shaver,it does not shave that close, you will have a 5 o'clock shadow on your dome by the end of the day,so you need to use it every day, after two days of not using it,you would need to trim your hair again. As for me,I use the Rayzor, but in pinch,I just run a Schick disposable up the sides and back and over the top,and throw it away.
WOW! Didn't expect to see this thread again. I didn't know how long I've been shaving my head but it's a year and a half now by the looks of this.
I don't use the trimmer any more but just use a cartridge razor. What I do is use a Wilkinson Sword Quattro (Schick I think you call them) to shave my face (I can only get two face shaves from any razor) and instead of disgarding the blade, use it to shave my head - so I'll get another two head shaves from it before it becomes uncomfortable. I'll shave my head once every three days now and it's a very pleasant and refreshing experience.

Mach 3 still here. Call me Nancy if you want... if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That, and I'm not looking for bragging rights when I'm just trying to deal with male pattern baldness in under 10 minutes before work... form follows function, every time. GoVegan, did your balls descend far enough yet to give it a go in the face of your wife's disapproval?

no
I could do it if I really wanted to but shaving my head bald will definitely cause my right arm to get sore.
While much has been said about the way advertisers have always hawked their products to women by playing on their insecurities, men have not been immune...
