Another thing that has pissed me off!

I don't know how long this has been happening because it's been a while since I had to purchase a gas can.

Apparently, the days of a gas can consisting of 1) red plastic container and 2) spout, are long gone. The government is now requiring that all gas cans be fitted with something called an "Enviro-Flo" spout. It basically limits the amount of vapors coming from the can and spillage. The "Enviro-Flo" is just something else that the EPA thinks will help the environment and it makes filling up your lawnmower a complete pain in the ass. Has this country lost it's f*$#ng mind!!! I think I now know why I enjoyed looking at those pictures from 50 years ago that Lxskllr posted the other day.

WTF!? We've got millions of barrels of oil floating around the ocean and countless other pollutants entering the earth and it's atmosphere and we're wasting our time, resources, and energy on the amount of pollution caused by vapors when you spill gas from a gas can?!

So if you have any old gas cans or see one, keep it! Otherwise your next yard mowing experience will be filled with more profanities than usual.

It's just another avenue of control by a bureaucracy...
If they didn't foster such rules they wouldn't feel kingly
and might even consider working for a (measly) living!!

I still have a few of the old style gas cans, so I don't need to get the new one.

I know this is just a minor thing, but I think it's the culmination of everything. The new gas cans, the new warning labels, sin taxes, PACT Act, etc... I am truly convinced that our "civilized society" is slowly degrading and is destined to collapse into itself. Which would actually be a healthy process.

How does it work? Where does the vapor go?

I actually found their website. http://www.enviroflospout.com/

For the first time ever in history, a gas can now has to come with instructions! No worries it's just a simple four step process. The good folks at Enviro-Flo will walk us through it.

At this point, I'm not even sure if vapors is addressed with this thing. I really need to address the vapors emitting from my brain right now.

Simple, just follow the steps. If that's a buzz kill, there is always the tried and true gold paint, white-out, or scotch guard. I have yet to try the new gas cans. Maybe I'm over reacting and they're not all that bad. A buddy of mine said it was a complete pain in the ass. So much so he is scouring the internet and garage sales to stock up on the old style cans. Maybe my buddy has issues and is challenged. But, c'mon! Seriously? It's a gas can. I can see it as an accessory option for a gas can. But to make it mandatory.

This gizmo seems far more about child-proofing than anything environmental. The words "green" and "environmental" have ceased entirely to have any real fixed meaning--merely advertising buzzwords now.

Twist off the spout and use a funnel to pour the gas in the lawn mover.

I'm going to have to research this further to see if it has become the only option for all gas cans coast to coast, or if it's just something stores around here are buying into and pushing.

All the stores around here only carry gas cans with this new device. I asked an employee if they had any without the "enviro-flo" he said no, but that they carry "utility" cans which are not "approved" for fuel, kerosene, etc... Interestingly, the utility cans look just like a regular gas can...Red with a spout, except they say not approved for fuel.

Sure it's not the end of the world, but it was just an interesting little thing that speaks largely for the times we are in.

The new gas cans suck. The spout's a real PITA to use. Luckily I don't own one, but if I did, removing the mechanism would be first thing on my list.

First I'm hoarding up dip cans without the new warning labels, now gas cans without the Enviro-Flo spout. Resisting change is a full time job.

I don't know if anyone is still enforcing it but in MA gas
station attendants are supposed to verify that you have
a legal can before they let you pump.

Maybe we should be called Nannychusetts!!
