BP Claims Containment Cap Has Stopped Oil Leak From Deepwater Well

    http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/...mexico-bp-says

This afternoon, BP was able to test a containment cap on the blown-out well in the Gulf of Mexico, after a series of problems and delays. Now, for the first time in months, there is no oil flowing into the Atlantic Ocean, the company says.

Watch Obama's poll numbers rise now.

It's good news! finally! cautiously hopeful.

I dont think this ordeal is going to swing lasting poll numbers one way or the another. Once the destruction is fully investigated without military obstruction we will see.

Risk that pressure could burst new leak through sea floor...

            CAP THAT!

This is only a temporary ploy to raise stocks. They can't cap it because of the pressure to the casing.

            And I quote:

"If the test shows the well is in bad shape, the company will re-open the well again. If that happens, they will pump crude to the surface, through a series of pipes"

"Engineers will monitor pressure readings incrementally for up to 48 hours before reopening the cap while they decide what to do."

Poll numbers rarely go up from a disaster happening, this wasn't a crisis averted anyway, just pure disaster.

People take life on a more personal level. The economy will have to start getting right before poll numbers go up.

No one knows the condition of the well bore.

                  I hope this works.

But, awhile ago, they were showing (Oly video) all of the outlets were closed and the pressure was only 3k psi. Which is too low - if that 3k was really the pressure in the bore, which I don't know.

there are about 18 other minor leaks in the well casing. I think sgreger posted an article about it earlier i'll find it and link you to it

There is significant evidence that the casing cracked and that oil is leaking out of other subsurface cavities, and that capping it would only increase pressure and possibly widen those cavities by forcing the oil to escape through them instead.

I am putting my money on that this won't be capped anytime soon, if at all, and that eventually what will happen is they will just funnel it up to the ships for collection. This works out to BP's favor because once this well is closed, they ain't drilling it again. If it remains open and they are allowed to continue collecting the oil, it's like an offshore oil contract that can never be canceled, which = money.
