A little help from our techies

I am going to buy a new TV and was wondering if you techno pros could help figure out which one of the two that I have narrowed it down to would be better. With the set up that I have, a 27" is the biggest that would work and in my budget.

I currently use a 19" but due to the fact that these eyes are getting older, I am having trouble seeing some of the details on the screen.

It is on a stand similar to ones in hospital rooms so I roll it to where it's over the legs of my recliner. It will hold the new one just fine. I started using that set up when my son was living at home and I could just be in the room with him while he played on the big TV in the living room.

One is LG LCD 27" 1080P ($390) & one is Vizio 26" LED 720P ($348). I know 1080P is supposed to be better for PS3 games but the 720P is the newer technology with LED and is considerably thinner and lighter.

Here are the links to the two. Any help or insight with the advantages of one over the other one would be appreciated.

I think the LG link is wrong. It goes to a blank page on the computer monitors section.

      the LG link isn't working.

anyway. by reputation LG would be better than the Vizio. But Vizeo is a way smaller company with a goal to provide buyers high quality products at reasonable prices. Sams clubs big seller is the vizio. I bought a 40" vizio for my MIL about 2 years ago for her room. She loves its and she rarely leaves her bedroom anymore. Can you say alterior motive? [on my part]. The price was great and so is the preformance. To me it was a no brainer.

the vizio is $328 at sams club right now

I have an older top of the line 42" samsung plazma in my bedroom and I love it. It was a ton of $. If I ever have to replace it I would first look at the vizio. I have a 55" Sony Bravo [also top of the line] in my living room. I'm selling it before I move. When I get settled I plan on getting another big screen and won''t be paying the sony or samsung prices.

I bought a Sharp 22" for our kitchen a few years ago and its just incredible. But again it was alot of $.

So if you are on a budget or just can't see spending alot of $ on a tv then its vizio all the way. You can read up on the companys founder and his goals in providing products to his customers. Its kind of interesting.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I love my Visio. I also love my LG monitor.

In general, another thing you want to look at it the Mhz. If you watch sports or action shows, IMO, you need at least 120Mhz. At 60 Mhz you get some ghosting and it REALLY bothers me - like it makes me dizzy or something.

Also, newer TVs come in a different aspect ratio. Unless you are going to HD-everything, you might end up with a smaller image (although still clearer) with black bars on the sides.

I think your setup sounds about right. For a 27" you should try to be 3-5 feet away from the screen.

I like the LED back light. On my Visio the LED's behind the black parts turn off when they are showing black images - this makes the blacks VERY black. Even if this features is not available, the LED's theoretically last longer then CFL's.

That's weird because when I click on it, it works. If you folks don't mind, try www.lg.com and putting M2762D-PM in the search box. How about the difference in LCD versus LED?

I prefer Costco over Sam's club, but we have 2 Vizios from there that I've been pretty happy with. Definitely need HD signals though as much as possible though, or your eyes will feel like their 90, like mine feel on SD signal, hah.

Less than $300 for this 26", it's in our bedroom now.

Well I'd say there both good, I can't seem to find the refresh rate on the LG but the higher that is the better. I bought a samsung 32" lcd last year that I abso;utely love. It is 120 mhz refesh rate. I really like my samsung.

Hey not sure how you feel about mail order but I found a really nice sumsung cheap no tax no shipping, that if I were you I'd give a hard look at. it even has gamer mode... http://www.electrozone.com/product.aspx?pf_id=LN26B360

Check it out seems like a helluva deal to me.... OH, and heres's the search page so you cam see they have a real good seller rating ,,...http://www.google.com/products/catal...wAg#ps-sellers

                  Well, there's some marketing-speak involved.

Real LED Tv's are insanely expensive and called oLED - neither of these are those.

What they call LED is really LED back lit LCD.

What they call LCD is a CFL (Compact fluorescent light) back lit LCD display.

CFL's are older technology and cheaper. LED is newer, better color, longer life, lower power consumption, depending on the type - the blacks can be blacker, etc but generally a bit more expensive right now.

Well, also 1080p is full HD. 720p is what a lot of television is broadcast in now, but more and more is coming out in 1080p as the price of making it comes down. So if you give it a couple years, the 1080p TV will likely have sharper images than the 720p.

don't you mean.....wait a few years and HDTV will automatically be broadcast to a device implanted into your brain.

I very seldom do anything on the TV I'm using now other than play games other than a few Blu Ray movies on the PS3.

Thanks for all of your input. Seems like both have their pros and cons. The price on the LG is actually $370 not $390 so that makes the choice even harder.

Im a total Sony-whore....but I have just two words for you - Stay the hell away from Vizio!

Seriously - go into a tv store and compare the pictures of Vizio vs. Sony or Samsung. The difference is unreal. Even though they are usually tuned "hot" in the store, you'll notice the Vizio's clarity/contrast/refresh rate, etc etc just cant compare. And there is no way you should buy anything under 1080p these days, as they are already working on 1440p, so might as well buy something that wont be completely outdated in a few years...

Its all about the Bravia XBR baby.....

Thanks. Problem is that at my house, it is all about the moolah too so Sony's are unfortunately out of my price range in that size.

                              Ever try a refurbished one?

I never have with a TV, but I have a Refurb SONY Viao PC that I'm on now. It's solid as a rock and it's 7 years old now (P4 - 3.2Ghz ½G ram) w/ a refub monitor. I got them all back then for $900 and I'd say that I certainly got my money's worth.

I also buy Refub MP3 players on Woot.com for $30~$40.

I've also had good luck in refubs w/ cameras, guitars, saxophones, cars, etc. Refurb snus would suck though.
