    Utah Firing Squad

Have to admit I didn't think I'd see execution by firing squad coming.

It's been an option for a long time until recently. The guy who was executed this morning was convicted when the option was still valid so that's what he chose.

It's funny how the American government condemns "savage" nations like North Korea and Saudi Arabia for executing civilians, yet we do the exact same thing.

The death penalty today is too kind. These low lifes need to experience the same terror and pain they inflicted on their victims. As long as there is DNA evidence, a lawfully obtained confession, or overwhelming facts, DEATH. Eye for an eye. Some, like child abusers, may even need bull-whipped to death. Just my thoughts.

Eh, personally, I think they should be used to learn something. They could be used as guinea pigs for testing new drugs, drugs that potentially have very horrid side effects.

It is wrong for our government to have the right to put people to death! Lock them up in a horrible prison or put them on a deserted island with no food even but we should never have the death penalty in a civilized society.

Not sure I want someone to be responsible for carrying out those types of sentences. Can't exactly leave you unscathed.

Lol, because prison is better and more civilized than death? Prison is little more than an overpriced and glorified gulag. Death the next morning after trial is cheap, efficient, and more humane.

You don't want to give gov the power to kill someone but you want them to have the power to lock them in a cage with rapists their whole life? Sounds less humane to me than a firing squad.

Also, re this article, this guy rocks for choosing firing squad. I'd choose that over lethal injection any day.

Yup, the guy had a choice of how he wanted to die.. He chose firing squad. it wasn't like it was pulled out of a hat.

Prison's revocable; death, not so much. There's too much shenanigans in the legal system to entrust it with people's lives. I'm for the death penalty in principle, but not in application.

Not sure what else there is to say...... I don't want to be falsely convicted period. But If I were and the choice came down to being but raped for any amount of time during the appeals process.... Then yes go ahead and shoot me next day.... So I guess my point is fix the system not the punishment,,, if that makes any sense at all...

I wonder who picked the shooters, justice and vengeance are good and all that. Basically someone shooting became a little more like the criminal, as does society. I don't get the logic that doing it back to the perpetrator someone doesn't reflect on us.

Five marksmen fired, and Gardner slumped down. To ease the psychological burden on the executioners, one of them was given a blank round, but none knew who. Within two minutes, a medical examiner declared Gardner dead.

And what's the difference from the marksman and a doctor who administers lethal injection, and the guy who pulls the switch, or let's the gas flow......

Very little difference, definitely not trying to imply that as the commentary had shifted a bit to retribution in general.

I think the blank round would make it worse for me.
