    Speaking of Crazys in Politics

Apparently, Santa Clara County in Southern California has banned "Happy Meal" toys.

I hope that none of these people realize that humans exhale CO2 or we're done for.

Good, I'm glad to see that. Everybody in this country needs to lose some freedoms and perks. When these jokers start losing things they like, maybe they'll start defending the things I like a little more vigorously.

I dont think banning toys in necessarily the way to go about it, but something should be done to curtail the mcdonalds corporation (and other fastfood joints/junk food producers) incessant marketing to children. Their food is dangerous and addictive (sound familiar?).

Personally, I vote for education. I know that is not so popular in this country these days, but I have a hunch it might have an impact. Warning labels on happy meals sound about right to me. Keep your effing toys, just know that you are feeding your child mutated monkey meat that puts them at risk of developing a laundry list of health issues later in life.

I think they should package all McDonald's and other fast food meals in grey plain packages with just the brand name and a warning, with a vivid image of a bunch of clogged arteries...

here's where I got the idea...

I support the education angle too. We're working on that with our kids currently.

Here's an interesting study about McD's food and kids making choices.

AMEN BROTHER! however in this case....
              The way I see it....

Parents are the ones that ultimately buy the happy meal, thus banning a toy isn't going to have the impact they think it will. Parents need to make better meal decisions for their children, it should not be up to the government to ban something inedible to help parents make the right FOOD choices.
Most parents that feed their kids happy meals do so because it is easy and fast, so how is banning a toy going to have an impact? I didn't get to eat at McDonalds as a child; to be fair its because we were a little poor. LMAO

I saw a clip of the Jamie Oliver show thing where kids were shown how McNuggets were made. Put chicken parts in a blender, blend , form into "nuggets", deep fry. He ask them how many wanted to eat the said nugget..... they all raised their hands.
Kids are not responsible for their diet, their parents are.

If it's breaded and fried, they'll eat... but then so would I.

Exactly. I'm not against the idea. I'm against the government doing it.

I "banned" McDonald's toys in my house about 5 years ago. Sure, I pay a few cents premium to buy the individual items when we do go to McDonalds, but I don't have to deal with the kids fighting over the toys, messing with them while we are eating, and it also reduces McDonalds to just another restaurant that must compete for their business on the basis of their food quality. As a happy result, I haven't had to go there very often in recent years. (On the other hand it now costs me more to feed them when we go out.)

Timholian has it right. I can't STAND when other parents complain that their kids will only eat mac-n-cheese, raviolis, chicken friggin' nuggets, or whatever. It's simply because they're not hungry enough. Children will not choose death over broccoli. That being said, I too sometimes take the easy way out but I don't feel hypocritical about it because it's few and far between and I know I'm doing it for me. Like recently I made that vile boxed mac-n-cheese 'cos my 6 year old is loosing teeth like there's no tomorrow and she can't chew much. Tired and hungry is a bad combination.

@ Tom502 - Ever have a deep fried Reese's Peanut butter cup? or a Deep fried Snicker's bar? It's almost sexual.

Yah this has been all in our local news lately about this Mcdonalds things. It's also ALL restaurants that offer toy incentives with high fat meals, so this would have a larger impact.

I think everyone knows what my take on this would be: Who the fark does the government think it is doing things like this? A company (the most successfull business in America) is selling something and they offer toys with it. It's a meal for kids, so they offer a toy and the parents are more likely to buy it. This is simple business and marketing and the government has no authority to be regulating that. Unless happy meals are illegal if your under 18, they have no right.

Is McDonalds terrible? Yes. But people WILL eat there, and it's the parents choice. If theres no happy meal, than the kids will just order a regular hamburger which will likely be equal in size or larger. This will have NO impact on anything. It's just the government slowly conditioning people to accept the nanny state. California is a perfect place to look at to form your opinions on things: If California endorses it, you should NOT endorse it. Can you believe we pay our legislators hundreds of thousands of dollars annualy to come up with things like this? Can you believe that while the nation is suffering and middle class people are going to bed hungry, these people are making several hundred k a year to think of new ways to f*ck with children and play nanny to others trying to raise their kids?

Lx is right though. I hope the nanny state personally infringes on everyones space and touches the life of every American. Then they will know the tobacco users plight, and then they will stand up and do something. I hope they ban reality shows next and anything endorsed by paris hilton.

I think they should ban things like high fructose syrup and processed anything. The high fat meal war I think is about as realistic in handling the problem as the failed drugwar.

You want to ban HFCS and someone else wants to ban tobacco. Everybody loses. What we need is education and taking responsibility for our own choices and stop asking government to play nanny.

That is exactly how it should be but we are never going to get back to that in our lifetimes. Everyday there is somekind of new control.

The lowfat war has now been going on for over two decades and people are not any thinnner. I do have a beef with additives. If McDonalds served real food then kids could eat a grass fed burger with a organic milk shake and not have to worry about bloating up like balloons and could leave with a toy also.

When I went to East Euro in 92 they did not have any processed foods and now they have everything and are starting to look like Americans.
