I think tattoos and piercings are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries

I've thought about getting a tattoo of a vagina on my penis. I'm just afraid it would be too hard to piss .... literally...

I have 3 tattoos with intentions to get at least one more fairly soon. When I got my first tattoo at 16, I wanted it to be something that I would be fond of forever, and while a lot of people think it's kind of lame, I got my last name in Old English font down my left forearm. I mean, I go through periods where I think that it's kind of white-trashy, but it's something that won't ever change, and I'm proud of being who I am. My second tattoo was a spur of the moment thing while my girlfriend got her tongue pierced(horribly disgusting, has since removed it THANK GOD). My second one, a buddhist eightfold noble path wheel, means a lot to me. I was never baptised into a religion, and have found buddhism to make the most sense to me. I'm intrigued by the self-worship, and having this tattoo reminds me to be the best person that I can be, and It's right on my right wrist. The last tattoo I had done, which was only like a month ago, is a quote from one of my favorite books. It's on my right forearm in a real cool typewriter font, and also serves as a pleasant reminder to me. It reads "No sorrow, no regrets. No past, no future. The present is enough for me. Day by day."

To me, a tattoo is sort of like a post-it-note that I can put on my body. It's weird, but my tattoos have, thus far, shaped who I am. I'm 19 years old and have been through a hell of a lot, and I'm just trying to be the best person I can. I got my last tattoo as kind of an attempt to curb some of the stress that has/had been eating me up, and it really has worked so far. I have friends, who are also 19 or so, who have already had tattoos covered up. I pride myself in knowing that I love the ones I have, and while it is a viable addiction, I like to think that I have a decent handle on it. I don't necessarily like the whole tattoo trend, but it's interesting to see what people have. I've seen a lot of horrible tattoos on people that I know, but I'm pretty understanding. The reasons that I get tattoos might be different from theirs, so I don't see the need to judge.

I know that the next tattoo is going to be a tree of some sort. Probably an oak, because my dad has always been really interested in trees, and has always thought of himself as the trunk of my family tree. I've always thought that was a really cool concept, and it would be nice to have that reminder

sorry for the rant, will post pictures when it's not 4 AM, dark, and freezing.

          /end

Deadohsky those portrait tats are really good. Someone is very talented. As for me, I've never had any piercings or tats. It used to be if you wanted to be different you got a tattoo or piercing. Now days, if you want to be different, don't have any tattoos or piercings. Tats used to only be for three kinds of people: Military, Rock n' Rollers, or Ex-Cons. Now every soccer mom on the block has a f'n tramp stamp or a rose on their ankle. Plus tats are just one more way for the gov't to track you.

I may get some shoulder tats someday. I'd like to get a Mjolinir (Thor's Hammer) like Trolltind's and maybe a nice gothic scene on the other arm.

Yeah, tats are a trendy fad these days. Same with piercing.

I thought of getting one of those for my MOS but it would be misleading. As part of the fire support team, we are often referred to as the "fisters" and the symbol is a giant clenched fist with the letters "FIST" (fire support team acronym) or "FISTER" on top. Living in SF, that may give some people who see it the wrong impression.

Yeah. I mean they just started right? Because they got popular they are just a trend I guess.
                        So many haters.
I love my many tattoos. I was raised in a biker/jail bird family. It is our culture that has been hijacked by popular media...
Please do not get one, we don't want you

Where do you get your stats? I would say tattooed folk are still a minority.

People with tattoos are definitely not a minority around here. I never gave statistics, just my own observations. I'm a very observant person. When I'm out and about I'm always studying people, and one thing I've noticed is about 40% of people I see, I can find a tat on in passing. And that's just the tats that are visible. Factor in the amount of people who have tats in discreet places (usually females), and that percentage is higher. At least in my area.

Tats and piercings have become trendy. Right up there with I-Phones and guys with a Justin Bieber hair-cut! I'm sorry to admit I even know who Justin Bieber is! Or the Jonas Brothers for that matter! I can thank the media and the evil marketing empire for that. We need to parole John Lennon's assassin just long enough to solve that dilemma.

I think it's safe to say, that in today's society, people are more surprised when you tell them you don't have any tattoos vs. having tattoos. Same goes for piercings. Perhaps your demographic is different. Even if you were to conduct a poll, it would not be accurate. Statistics just give a person a general idea because there is too many variables involved in the process.

But I will stand-by my statement that every "soccer mom" has a tramp stamp or a rose on her ankle. Sometimes a butterfly. Sometimes a butterfly shitting on a rose.

It's more common than smoking, I'd say.

I think it really depends on where you live.
Yeah, you see them a lot more now, but in a global whole they are by far the minority.
I can't help but wonder why it bothers some people when a soccer mom gets a tattoo? Does it matter?
Do you judge people by the shoes they wear or the car they drive?
Do you make assumptions about people because they are not like you?
If you don't like them, just say so.
The truth is most people get them for personal reasons. Tattoos help pay my bills, so when a mom wants a tattoo to remind her of her dog or lost kid I find it awesome.
Not trying to flame, I love diverse opinions.
Tribal bands/barbwire are however very...un-original. I can understand the anger when speaking of those
