How did you discover snus and what made you stick with it?

    Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask a simple question that probably says a lot about each of us: how did you discover snus? Was it totally by chance, through a friend’s recommendation, or maybe during a trip abroad? Personally, I came across it while looking for an alternative to smoking—and it ended up changing quite a bit in my daily routine.

But beyond that first encounter, I’m also really curious: what made you stick with it? Was it the taste, the effect, the smoke-free aspect, or maybe the culture surrounding it? We all have different reasons, and I think that’s part of what makes the snus community so interesting.

For those who are just getting started or still unsure, I recommend this helpful article that really cleared things up for me in the beginning: https://pros.training-therapie.fr/cest-quoi-le-snus/

Looking forward to hearing your stories and how your snus journey began!

    Welcome to the forum, tristanbailly83!

Well, I used to be a chainsmoker, who tried to give up smoking in 2006. Nicorette did not help at all, it only made feel nauseous all the time, made my jaw ache, even wrecked some of my fillings.

So I got the idea to check Wikipedia for info about chewing tobacco to replace this disgusting Nicorette stuff. The chewing tobacco article had a link to snus back then. Snus sounded more promising overall. I actually studied snus for about 2 weeks to find that the anti snus (or anti smokeless in general) propaganda was nothing but pure nonsense (a joint operation between cigarette manufacturers, tax authorities, and useful idiots in the anti tobacco puritan movement, as it seemed)

So, I ordered 5 cans from Sweden. For a former chainsmoker like me, snus immediately was a revelation, replacing up to ten cigarettes with only one portion of snus while even be more satisfying. I placed the next order three days later, and never looked back ever since December 2006.

    Cheers!

      I can't remember how I was introduced to snus..........seriously
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

I was a chain smoker of rolling tobacco and cigarettes. I had tried to quit with pharmaceutical nicotine (patches, inhalator, chewing gum, lozenges, and nasal spray) but they didn’t make me feel good.

I decided to try pipes and cigars but realised after quite some time that I wanted to quit them too. There was a tobacconist I bought pipe tobacco, pipes, and cigars from - i saw this stuff in there which intrigued me. It was nasal snuff so I bought some despite worrying about it.

I then found a big online nasal snuff forum. Though I enjoyed the lovely different scents of nasal snuff it wasn’t quite getting me off the smoking yet and I think someone on the nasal snuff forum mentioned snus so then I found this forum and the rest is history.

I think I was looking for an alternative to dip online to quit smoking, because I was using dip quite a bit in my attempt to quit cigarettes. I was over on SM Post and somebody made a post about snus, it got me interested and the rest is history. I got into snuff way after I got into snus.

Was a Cope user since the mid 70's. Found snus sometime in the 90' before it became 'fashionable'. Didn't have pouches then i dont think. Just loose. After using snus for a while I tried a can of Cope. It was the fist can I didn't finish. And, as Chewbacca says, the rest is history.

I remember finding snus online when I was searching for safer alternatives to cigarettes.

I tried all the NRT stuff and it didn't work. Kept going back to cigarettes.

Snus did the trick nicely and continues to work well keeping me away from cigarettes.

General and Lucky Strike were my gotos back in the day. I chain Siberia Reds these days.

Who remembers Lucky Strike snus? If it were still around they may have made a stark version of it too which I'm sure would have been awesome

I'm a musician and I had a run of gigs in Norway around 2007 ... I had vaguely heard of snus, but when I saw it in petrol stations and supermarkets there I bought a couple of cans (Catch Eucalyptus and General mini) just to see what it was. Tried it and although I didn't quite get on with it to start with I did notice that I didn't crave a smoke for a while after.

2007 was the time smoking was banned in public spaces including pubs here in the UK ... We'd also not long had our first kid ... I didn't feel it a good look pushing the kid in a pram while smoking a ciggie.

So I looked in to snus ... found Northerner and Buysnus.com which sold freely to the UK back then ... there was a wide selection including some of the most innovative new varieties back then ... much better than now. Settled on Götland's Gul and Nick and Johnny Original as my favourites (also Claq Qui and General Ekstra Sterk which came out in that next year) ... sadly most of those are now discontinued and they were great.

I gave up smoking by just leaving the first cigarette of the day until as late as I could bear for a while. When I got the first cravings I would pop a snus ... and that meant that even if I smoked afterwards I didn't get any reward. I got more relaxed about using snus earlier in the day and ended up only having one cigarette at the very end of the day which didn't do anything anyway. When I finally resolved not to smoke on a daily basis it wasn't difficult at all because of snus.

I have kept on snusing ever since ... a massive health benefit ... I have smoked since, mainly a pipe, but I've never been worried about becoming addicted to smoking again. Since the nicotine pouch revolution I've tried the non-tobacco white products which seem to be taking over ... but there's something missing there. I still feel a craving for something else which actual tobacco satisfies more than a cocktail of chemicals in a fake pouch. So I go back to the ever decreasing number of real tobacco snus products!

That's my story ... it's been with me almost 20 years! As has this place.
