These will be the good old days when all you had to do was go online, place an order, and wait for 7 days for 3 dollar cans of virtually tax-free tobacco. Not sure where you live pangloss but a block away from my office there is a General snus fridge with fresh cans for "sale" (read: taxation) at just shy of $8 per. I go in there all the time, but I have never purchased snus there. I'm waiting until the day I forget to throw some cans in my backpack.
I believe there are big changes in store for us Swedish snus users in the USA... I really have no idea but look what's happened in the last year. A lot has changed in the snus world in the short time that I have been a part of it.

I don't think the government is anti tobacco. I think they are most definitely pro money.
It takes the same amount of effort to ban tobacco as it does to tax it.
They won't ever ban tobacco in the US. The historical place of tobacco in our economy and the fact that the government can place as a high a tax as they want on it and people will pay it is quite an incentive for them to keep increasing taxes.
If Snus picked up in the US you can be gauranteed it will be taxed like all other tobacco products because it is a product people will pay to get regardless of the price.

I guarantee Swedish Match sells more General snus than Philip Morris USA does Marlboro snus.

Our government really cares less than a rats asshole about the cost of health care. Imagine all of the suddenly homeless drug company execs if anything was changed?
Imagine the for profit HMO execs having to sell their 3rd Porsche.
The insanity I tell yas!

Pangloss I believe your intentions are good, your research is excellent, and in a perfect society each and every one of your points would be valid. But let's face it, we live in America. Each and every night politicians all over this country lie awake and think of ways to rape the American taxpayer. It doesn't matter how pretty they paint the picture, or what kind of spin they put on it, in the end nothing they do is done with our benefit in mind. I know it sucks, that's just reality! I'll happily keep ordering my snus from overseas to keep any more of my hard earned dollars out of the pockets of the Fat Cats!

Pangloss, you are obviously confident in your theory. Is it worth your time to refute each and every point everyone posts? In other words, to systematically destroy our opinions that you asked for in the first place? I don't get it. This is obviously a place where people's opinions are effectively shared, not changed.
As for the topic at hand, again, you are lucky to live where tobacco is apparently not taxed as excessively as other places. Tobacco in all its forms is $8 here. I prefer the prices on buysnus.com. And finally, I commend you for your efforts to make the world of healthcare a better place. Seriously, thank you.

Well, if I could vote on the poll, I would. But for whatever reason I can't. Nonetheless, I would rather it come to the US simply because of the new PACT legislation that passed in the House the last two years. If the Senate takes hold and passes it (if not this year, it probably will next year), we will still have UPS, but you never know when they will decide that "due to government pressure" they will stop shipping tobacco altogether or when the government just stops shipping by any means. If that happens, we will have no Swedish snus in the states. I realize the taxes will go up on snus if they're here, but it is better than not having them available at all.
I wish people would stop buying propaganda. If they would just think for themselves and respect people's freedom and privacy we wouldn't have corrupt government nailing us with ridiculous law after ridiculous law. I'm tired of government altogether actually. We'd probably be better with state and local law alone, with only a joint military. But again, another political rant.
