Poll: Sell my motorcycle or deal with wife bitching

So I bought this new Yamaha R6 a couple months ago, 09 brand new. I love the thing and its only 89$ a month and the insurance is only 340$ a year! Plus it gets like 50mpg, so its obviousely cheeper which is why i bought it.

But my wife hates it, is complaining about how her whole family thinks im not ready to be a father (I have a 2 month old daughter) because only single guys own a motorcycle etc, and it comes up at least every 2 days and ruins my day.

its frankly getting to be not worth it.

So Is this one of those "compromises" of marriage where I should just give in and let her win, sell the thing for what I can and lose at least 2k $ on the deal and be left without a car?
Or should I just deal with the neverending fights caused by it.

Sell the wife and payoff the bike............win - win
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Capitulation isn't compromise. You should promise not to ride like an ass, and maybe take a safety course(if you haven't already), and the wife should let you have some fun. It's a dangerous world, and you could get killed walking across the street; Nothing's guaranteed.

I wish shed lighten up but shes kind of a square she is afraid ill kill myself which I understand but I told her if you are afraid of me dying for every little thing why did you marry me when I was still in the army? lol makes no sense.

            husband
            father
            man

You get to pick only two. :P

Similar to this one, when choosing a wife, you get to pick only two of these:

            hot
            smart
            sane

Tell me it's not at least approximately true.

Trade you my car for it hah. Anyway, keep the bike, even if you keep paying on it and don't get to ride it as much, it's still sometime you can enjoy when the time is right. It will be harder to convince her to let you get one once you have kids than it is for you to garage it more frequently in the near future. Just MHO.

Tell her you understand her point of view which is why you want to trade it in for a "Smart Car." She'll tell you to keep the bike.

OK sgreger1, I consulted my fiance one this one. I drive a Honda Ruckus, 49cc, it's the wimpiest 2 wheel vehicle out there in terms of power, but it's badass for a scooter. Google a pic of it of you've never seen one. I don't contribute to motorcycle-themed threads because I drive a 49CC, but she's my baby, I ride her everywhere I go. Every day of the year.

She said: Tell her how much you drive it as safe as possible, and don't tell her when (if) you are driving like an ass. This comment came from the fact that I disclose too much information about my driving style on this scooter -- I break every law in the book, because I can. It's too easy. I get the advantages of both vehicle and bicycle. But don't follow my lead! Hopefully you are a much safer driver. My original question to her was, can you drive a motorcycle and be a responsible father and husband, and she said: of course. And it's true. Find some way to express to her how much joy and fuel/parking-efficiency you get out of thing, ensure her that you are safe, remind her how much you love your bike, and let HER get used to the change. It can happen. Good luck brother.

OMFG this is so true! don't get me wrong, I love my wife and kids.

I've been married 3, yes I said 3 times. 1st wife...hot (while younger)and sane, also a bitch. Second wife: hot/cute and sane, also a slut. 3rd (and last I swear it)wife: HOT and SMART, but not a sane bone in her body, at least 35% of the time. I'm guessing if we are talking percentages like baseball players look at them..I'm doin pretty good on the last wife.

Yeah, I think more realistically one would have two dollars to spend on the three things, each costing a dollar, but which can be bought in increments. So one could spend a dollar on one and fifty cents each on the remaining two. Still, there's a total of one always missing. I'm sure it's the case for guys as well, in women's eyes.

I'd probably spend 80 cents on smart, 70 on hot and 50 on sane. I'm used to girls being inherently insane anyway, so... LOL

                        Sorry to hijack the thread.

The older I get the more i realize that "sane" is pretty damned important, as you can teach someone to be smarter, and you can pay for plastic surgery, but sanity...that one is god given.

So back to the thread's topic:

IMO, bikes are dangerous, not because of bike riders, but because of people in cars not watching out for bikes on the road. You can ride as safely as you possibly can, and some old woman not paying attention to the road can kill you. Taking a father and husband from obviously two very special people. Tough decision, but I'm sure in the end you'll make the best possible choice for all those involved.
