Nice work, man. It says a lot about a person what they do in a moment of crisis.

If you ever find your way to Western NC, you got a beer coming from me

I am in no way making a joke of it, but the first thing that came to mind is this:

Fade in.... House on fire with an old lady screaming inside

Pans to Xobeloot standing with his hands at his side

The music starts (AC / DC Thunderstruck)

Xobeloot pops in a Thunder (tm) (R) portion and jumps across the street in one leap kicks the window in and carries the people inside out under 1 arm.

He is standing outside after the rescue with a hotdog on a stick bar b queing it and he has a muddy snus smile.

        Ending music words...

        "You've been Thunderstruck"

        music fades

Ends with a can of Thunder snus and the tagline,

        Our snus is bad ass!

Kevin, you are a good man. Anyone who puts his life in danger in order to save another human being, is a brave & honorable man. I wish we had more people like you in this world.

            Kevin -

I don't want to take away from your experience by relating this, but rather reinforce your point about how fast that room filled up with smoke.

As a Sailor, and more specifically, a submariner, I'm a trained firefighter. (as well as trained for some other more "underwater-specific" casualties, bit that's a different story) But in a fire that has developed to the point of open flames, especially in a structure, temperatures in the main room get up to and above 1400 degrees in a matter of minutes. It can cause a house to literally explode like a bomb in less than 30 minutes. But the smoke that results from that fire will fill an entire structure in VERY short periods of time.

The CO and CO2 generated by the smoke will frequently overcome an average person (average like, not an olympic marathoner) in about 90 seconds. That is why smoke detectors are kind of a joke. If you were asleep when a fire started, you would likely already be dead from the poisonous gas before you had a chance to hear the alarm and wake up.

What you did was truly heroic. If someone on my boat did what you did on the boat, they would be awarded medals. If they did it off duty, they would probably be honored by the Secretary of Defense or higher. You, on the other hand, get the most valuable reward; the knowledge that you preserved another person's life when you had no spoken obligation to do so, and undoubtedly her repeated and most sincere gratitude.

I don't even have words to express how impressed and proud I am right now knowing who you are and knowing that you did what you did.

On the other hand, I can't say I would have expected amy less from a man of your caliber.

Absolutely AMAZING! I too live in an apartment and have a slight phobia of it catching fire. You now have one of the best bar stories ever! Your an admirable human being.

                    Hey Pud! (joking )

Sorry man, I haven't been checking in here all that much lately, but I saw this post and had to say something; Trouble is... all the good stuff's been said already. Doesn't leave me all that much...

So consider yourself (virtually) patted on the back, with a hearty handshake and I'd take my hat off to you... if I was wearing one.

This is a good place here at SnusOn and you've always been one of the lead characters, but now, you're not only a character but a man of admirable character!

                    Much Respect!,

                    Rob,

Bloody outstanding, man. Selfless action that saved the life of another at the risk of your own. I'm proud, mate, and would gladly buy you a beer and a tin of snus or stogie if you're ever around Charleston, SC.

I haven't responded to a fire like that, but I did stop and help out with a car accident I came across on I-95s in NC. Organized the people already there and tried to use the first aid I knew since no one else really knew any. It was kind of weird since there were people who were just bumbling around unsure, a few who had an idea of what to do but doing it on their own, and no one directing them but you.

I agree with what everyone in this thread has said regarding you Xobeloot. What you did was nothing outside of heroic.

I actually got a call this evening from the Savannah Morning News. I told them my story and gave them Eileen's daughters phone number.
