How many snus users do you know?

Because we all are living in different places, would be very interesting to hear how popular snus is among your friends. In Finland snus is quite popular (even it's banned) thanks to Sweden next to us! I have about 10 friends and know 10 people more who is regulary using snus. Only few of them are girls, but maybe it's better that way

I think sometimes that I'm the only person that knows about Snus in the UK most probably because it's banned here. I always get some strange looks when I pop a portion in when I'm out. I've tried to introduce it to some friends but most just retch when then smell it I guess it's an aquired taste. Still I feel I have the upper hand as I'm getting a better Nic fix, am not damaging my health anywhere near as much as if I were smoking, I'm not spending as much on my Tobacco and have such a wide variety in tastes compared to all the other Tobacco users around me puffing their lungs away and stinking of smoke. I think it's cool too watching smokers standing outside in the cold and rain trying to get their fix whilst I'm nice and cosy inside with my fat lip and a big grin

Before then I had never even heard of snus.

I have tried to tell some of my friends who smoke about it but despite my medical degree and the overwhelming research about snus in terms of harm-reduction they refuse to listen.

As soon as I tell them its illegal in the EU except Sweeden they automatically assume it must be really dangerous. I really think the EU ban is scandalous in this regard. Denying us a less harmful tobacco product simply as it would weaken their anti-smoking stance is morally reprehensible. :evil:

In terms of smoking and tobacco I agree that a policy of abstinence is the safest approach. However for those unwilling or unable to quit smoking, snus (if they like it) should be available as a less harmful alternative.

Plus it is sooo much nicer than cigarettes, I wish I had found it sooner.

Living in America, I no of no other snusers. Heck, when I give people a pris to try out, they think I'm giving them some kind of new flavor of Skoal. But I do know a few peolpe who use American dip.

I know no snusers in my neck of the woods. It's nice seeing there are so many American snusers on here - I know I'm not alone. It's gets me to thinking. Back in 1999, I attended the North American Single Malt Scotch Whiskey Society tasting in Chicago at a posh hotel on Michigan Ave. with my friend, who was a member. It was a mad night of sampling wicked good whiskey. We even received a nice cigar bag with our entrance (5 x $10-20 cigars!) and were allowed to smoke in the tasting room - I doubt the smoking happens these days.
At any rate, are there any snus societies out there like this? Or is it considered non-prestigious? It would be great if there were some sort of meeting like that to get snusers together. I'm sure Swedish Match would love to get in on it! It would be a fun evening of tasting! Now to just figure out what to mix with it... cigars and single malt... snus and ...(?)

Everyone I know that snusses is Scandinavian.

In fact, in spite of trying, I've only ever managed to get one person to even try the stuff - his response was wholly positive, though, and he thought it'd be the perfect thing for a mid-exam nicotine kick, so maybe our ranks will start growing!

Hm... well... I believe that the answer to that question would be '0'.

Although I am in KY, and there are quite a great number of people who use U.S. snuff (dip, skoal, etc.), practically noone around these parts has ever heard of snus. Of course, I'll see what I can do to turn a few people on to it around here. The town I live in just passed a smoking ban in all working environments (restaurants, bars, gas stations, bars, supermarkets, bars, tobacco shops, bars (can you tell which ones really irritate me?)) and I think that a few people that aren't interested in quitting might be interested in some kind of alternative. 'Specially the smokers that just aren't at all about the spitting part of the usual, local smokeless.

That, and the 'dippers'...well... if I can convince one or two of them that snus might be a little safer and not so rough on 'em, you never know. :wink:

...yes... I'm gonna turn into a snus evangelist...what can I say? In all honesty, I am such for Linux. :lol: ...can't help myself.

Oh, and somewhat off-topic; I wrote Swedish Match earlier today, and found out that they're probably going to be starting to sell in Louisville, KY before the test marketing is done, as a researcher there is doing some work with snus. Yeah, its a 2.5 hour drive from where I am, but...well... I could at least use it as an excuse to visit some friends over that way. :lol:

Wanted you to know that Phillip Morris, Taboka, just sent an invite today for a TasteFest.
It is being held at a Ruth Chris Steak House here in Indy.
Needed to make a RSVP, of course, and they have about 6 days and times
from which to select. I will post how the event turns out. I'm going to be taking some samples with me to share. Some of my Swedish stock and Camel Snus, as well.

DO IT, MAN!!! Lay down the law. Give the people some real snus. I can't wait to the the uncomfortable glances that will be shared among the PR folks. They need to know us snusers are out there/here so they'll get their collective heads out of their asses and stop making this snus process so secretive in the US. They need to know we want the product, that we don't want candy-flavored crap, we don't want to pay $5-6/can, and that if they don't provide it, we'll take our business elsewhere (heck, we're doing it already due to this idiocy).

You should ask them when they're going to market Lucky Strike and Camel more widely and watch them get uncomfortable about that being the competitor's (BAT's) product. I asked the guy from US Smokeless (makers of Skoal) when they did a local customer appreciation day about when they were going to release Skoal Dry, and he didn't even know what it was - he only knew about Revel. He asked what brand I use now, and I said "It's Swedish smokeless - snus. Do you know any of those brands?" He didn't. He gave me a can of Skoal Bandits to try likely just to make me go away.

If only I had the time to get over to Indy. Too busy...

Not to mention, unlike Cigarettes (especially now-n-days), and even American Dip/Chew, Snus can be used practically a ANYHWERE and ANYTIME - in the stores shopping (you can stay in the store longer without suffering nicotine withdrawal), airplanes, church, meetings, hospitals, homes of friends, and the list goes on... some people even fall asleep with it in their mouth - no need to worry about causing a fire!

Hi everyone, i don't know anyone else (locally) who uses Snus, YET!!.
I did find what I thought was a teabag in an ashtray once in a local pub, I now know what it was :lol: . I was also given a Prilla(?) by an Austrian guy over here on holiday when he saw I was about to light a cigarette, very nice to, a minty type,Unfortunately I can't remember the brand.
Like many others here, I wish I had found Snus earlier. I have smoked for 20+ years and taken snuff regularly for about 6 months.
I purchased some Snus this week and so far have no desire to "burn the plant" even after quite a few pints of beer too 8) . So far so good. I also like a pinch of nasal snuff.
As long as I can get Snus, I am 99.9% sure I will never smoke again.
I actually prefer it to smoking.
