Any day that involves bees is listed under the "Suck" category......glad your alright broOriginally posted by lxskllr View PostWas staking out limit of disturbance for a job. I had cut about 400' into the woods, and had 100' left to go. That's when I got a face full of hornets. I lost my prescription sunglasses when I was trying to get the bees off, but I somehow managed to escape with only two or three stings. I almost said fsck that job, and left, but ended up staying. I reset the gun in a different place, and tried to get past the hornets. The next stake past the hornets had a yellow jacket nest. I managed to escape without getting stung there. Went to Walmart to get some new glasses, and have an appointment for Sunday, so I'll get some new glasses. I've shredded two pair of pants on green briers, and my arms look like I was assaulted by a couple hundred cats, but I'm a couple beers and a glass of rye in, soon to get another, and I'll take a shower in a little bit. Not feeling to bad. How was your all's day?

I dont know about MD but here in PA it has been pleasantly fall cool

I tried progressive glasses and couldnt get on with them so I now have two pairs..one for distance and one for reading. Im much happier with this set up. I can read anything at arms length with my distance glasses so its not too much bother.
Bees don't worry me too much...don't know what kind you've got over there though. I like bees because they play fair. Hornets on the other hand terrify me and I wouldn't be anywhere near a nest. They have lookout guards at the nest to signal danger to the rest of the nest....then it's a whole world of pain if not death. I've heard of yellow jackets and they sound nasty too. Luckily we don't get them here...just the standard annoying European wasp that won't just p*as off when you're outside in September.Last edited by Frosted; 26-07-14, 02:25 PM.

I will need them too. It sucks getting older. But I'm tired of not being able to read anything. It's been almost a year since I've read a book.

I couldn't find them. It's in the woods, and the only place I didn't look really well was right under the nest. They could be anywhere. I was trying to sweep the bees off my face, and get the hell out of there ASAP. I ran out to the road, still heard buzzing, dropped my belt, and ran back to the truck. I also cut my hand somewhere in the process. I think I may have done that on my machete, but it could have been thorns; dunno. I didn't notice the blood 'til I was at the truck.Originally posted by trebli View PostSounds like a rough day. Could you go back at night with a flashlight and get your glasses? Time for new glasses anyway. I haven't had my eyes checked in 10 years or so, and they've gotten worse. I used to be able to see up close with my glasses on, but now I have to take them off. I guess that means I need bifocals, but I won't get them. I think a line in the glasses would be distracting. Looking over the top, or taking them off works well enough for now.

That sucks. That's a tough decision to make, but after awhile the care necessary becomes more than the care you can provide. Best of luck. Sometimes the best decision is merely the least shitty of a bunch of shit :^/Originally posted by wa3zrm View PostI had to put my dad in a nursing home earlier this week - not much fun there either

Mine was bad, but not as bad as yours. Hope you are ok. I've dealt with both hornet and yellow jacket nests before - not fun. I had to put my dad in a nursing home earlier this week - not much fun there either

by BasseBluesThis has gotten long overdue, but I finally managed to put together a video and a post at creatinker.com from the harvest and curing of my tobacco. I...After a warm and sunny season with a good amount of rain, it's time to harvest and cure the tobacco. A new thing I'm trying for the first time is to cure the tobacco outside only sheltered from the rain. This has prevented most of the tobacco to dry in a green state. If it got dry during the day, the higher humidity during the night and the morning dew made it moist and supple again during the night.
