Warning to all that are still smoking.

So here's me now, aged 50, lifelong heavy smoker up until a year ago when I discovered Snus. Smoking will never hurt me, always happens to other people
well let me tell you it WILL happen to you, it's got me. :evil:
I have a blocked aorta, probably due to smoking, got to have bypass surgery to replace blocked bit. Scary to say the least.

So for Fecks sake give up the ciggies and stick with this wonderfull Snus, I only wish I had swapped years ago then I may not be in this state today.

Damn, BW. That is scary. I appreciate the warning. I love snus and still smoke a few cigarettes a day, something I consider a treat after dealing with life for several hours at a time. I simply can't give them up completely, and I honestly don't think I want to, no matter how fulfilling snus is.

A blocked aorta could be lots of things, couldn't it? I'm sure smoking didn't help, but you could also have had a poor diet (maybe lots of dairy up there in the jolly country - that stuff will mess a person all up) and/or no exercise? Genetics? Stress? Anxiety?

Still, it's good to hear your warning. Cigarettes are truly bad.

Sorry to hear about that; but you should be fine if you follow the doctor's orders and keep your thoughts positive. Medical science has come so far these days, I can hardly keep up. 8)

Did you tell your doc that you use snus? I'd be interested to know what he had to say about it in relation to your illness.

btw: Jason, my pulmonologist was stoked to hear about my recent total switch to snus, he was aware of snus evidently from a colleague. He said that my former pack a day habit didn't cause, but definitely contributed to the massive blood clots in my lungs that nearly killed my twice last year.

The longer one is off the smokes, the more one realizes, how much the smokes impede one. It's a slow process to get back to normal fitness. As I'm experiencing this now it gets more and more unlikely that I ever smoke again. I always was lucky not to get any real illness through my former smoking, but 20 years of chainsmoking could produce their consequences every day.

Especially the younger ones among us should keep your warning in mind. As my grandmother often said (and she wasn't influenced by the ridiculous anti-smoking-propaganda of today): "There's nothing good in smoking!" Unfortunately I didn't listen.

Had an Angiogram yesterday :shock:
Before replumbing the lower part of my aorta they wanted to check my heart. This involved passing a catheter from an artery in my wrist into the heart, injecting a dye and monitoring the heart with x rays.
I was absolutely dreading both the procedure and the possible results.

Well, let me tell you the procedure was just slightly uncomfortable and really no big deal. The thought of it was far worse than having it done.

And the results; No ischaemic heart disease, all coronary arteries normal.


I am a very relieved Bitwobbly.

So if any of you smokers/ex smokers have to ever have this procedure, for goodness sake have it done.
