Ah, SC... The first of states to start the Second American Revolution. That is an amazing mountain. Is there much gold? That rusty hue on the face might indicate that.

Nice to see some photos from down in Dixie. Im headed down there (think deeper into swamp country) later this year.

    Lot of stuff I miss.

    I'm from SC

The photo is from Shining Rock NC (in the Shining Rock Wilderness/Pisgah Ranger District). But it’s not just a boulder. The whole side of the mountain is made of that Quartz. You can see it from miles away. The Indians said it was the navel of creation.

Here are a couple more pic to give you an idea. In the first all the stone you see is that quartz; it’s just covered in Liken (SP?)

The second is looking down just a little arm of the exposed Quartz (I am standing on the main the main rock face…..from the vantage point of the photo, it is behind me and running down to the left.

Subsequently, if you ever read the book or saw the movie “Cold Mountain”……...Cold Mountain (where the book is set)…..is about 5 miles further down the trail from Shining Rock

started a topic Photos of Nature and doing what you like!

Photos of Nature and doing what you like!

I was thinking it would be cool if there was a thread where I could show off some photos of Alaksan nature/hunting and such things and that it might be fun to see what things look like in your own part of the world!

So I will start it off:

Those these three are hunting photos. That is my son helping me to spot animals. He was doing a great job being as silent as possible, but he likes to look thru the wrong side of his binos so stuff looks further away. For those of you who don't know, that is a mosquito net on his head. Mosquitoes are terrible in the Alaskan interior cause everything is a swamp. The middle photo is sundown at the hunting camp on the river.
