I was exposed to canned seafood as a kid thanks to my mom. I still eat sardines from time to time. My fav canned seafood is though would either be smoked clams or canned octopus/cuttlefish.

I've been enjoying the Polar kippers as of late they are cheap and readily available at my wal-mart. Much better then king oscars since the king has been bumbled by the bee. Also all natural just smoked fished and salt. King Oscar now has some funky stuff since they were taken over by Bumble-Bee. Seriously they are the best kippers I've had and are less than $1.50 at wal mart. I hate wal-mart but I'll do what I have to do.....to get what I want or need......

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I love canned fish, particularly sardines and kippers. Personal favorite–sardines in tomato sauce, followed closely by mustard. Terrific with triscuits or just plain bread.

Like blue said.. Latvian Sprats are very good. They have a nice smoky flavor but there are many similar to that style from that part of the world. Canned herring is also very good. Yes, the Fukishima deal as well as the oil spill in the gulf makes me search out Atlantic seafood more these days.Originally posted by Mr. SnuffleupagusJust wondering. Are you avoiding the Pacific because of Fukishima radiation? That would be a valid concern IMO. The Wild Planet ones I've been getting are the best I've ever had but I might have to see if I can find some good ones from elsewhere. Wild Planet has some that come from the California Coast and some that are processed in Vietman. Both taste excellent. I just tried a can of Beach Cliff (product of Poland). They were nice and big, but the flesh was white and slimy and they had no flavor. I'll give the King Oscar's a go. I think I'll source some fresh ones as well.
Any other suggestions appreciated.

In the morning, southeast Asia style:
a little crushed garlic fried in olive or vegetable oil, then add one or two chopped tomatoes, some chopped onion and/or peppers, cilantro if you want, a little chili oil or even chili powder. A minute or two on high heat and then a can of sardines in tomato sauce. Poured over a fried egg on or next to rice.

I'll look out for them. I wonder if they cleared up their dispute with Russia. If not, it might be a good time to horde fishies. Limited market=lower price :^)Originally posted by Bigblue1Oh and this from the BBC on smoked sprats http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programme...nt/6362403.stm

Seek out riga gold smoked sprats if you can't find them riga sprats are nearly just as good. Like I said before they are small fish which I prefer. Naturally smoked and a product of latvia where they take the tinned fish appreciation to a whole other level http://latviansonline.com/sprats/ I've found them around me for about $2 a can which has to be opened with an opener and contains almost 6 ozs. Next time I open a can I will take some pics. Seriously these are the best i've ever had and I've tried pretty much all I can get my hands on..... Check the european section in your supermarket or better yet find a small european deli/grocer.Originally posted by Mr. SnuffleupagusJust wondering. Straight from the can at 3am with no light is the best
