They seem to sell before they even hit the shelves. Must be nice to know somebody who works at Best Buy.

I doubt they will be selling them at $99 though, it costs over $300 just to manufacture them. The margins aren't super high on tablets since they are kind of pushing the technology as it is.

Also lol @ the wooden ipad.

Oh yea. There's tons of great books available absolutely free. Checkout Sir Walter Scott. It can be a tough read due to the Scot's dialect, but if you kind of say it aloud in your head, it makes it easier to read, and adds life to the stories :^)

OK just an update - I love reading Jack London and his works have been a solace to me. The good news is that they have a huge Jack London selection for free at Project Gutenberg!

SC woman buys wooden iPad in McDonald's parking lot
    WIS TV ^ | Sep 4, 2011 | Logan Smith
Posted on Sunday, September 04, 2011 2:10:51 PM
SPARTANBURG, SC (WIS) - Spartanburg County deputies are looking for two men who sold a piece of wood painted to look like an iPad to a woman in a McDonald's parking lot.
Ashley McDowell, 22, told deputies she was buying food around 10:00 p.m. Monday when two men approached her in the parking lot trying to sell her an iPad or a laptop. According to a police report, the men showed McDowell a new iPad and told her they had bought several in bulk.
McDowell said she gave the men $180, and the men gave her a FedEx box out of the trunk of their car. When McDowell opened the box at home, she said she found a piece of wood painted black with an Apple logo.
McDowell told deputies one of the suspects had a gold tooth and was driving a white Chevy Impala with no rims and no tint.

I got my email notice from HP that they will be contacting me when they get them back in stock again. I imagine that I will surely get one......or as many as they will allow me to buy. I will take advantage to as many as they will sell me so I can ebay them also.

I was at Border's yesterday and they are selling their Kobo ereaders for $40.00. I bought one and it already comes loaded with 100 classic books. I am reading the book Sea Wolf by Jack London on it now. I read that book years ago and it is nice to see it again.

    ANOTHER production run...

    ~
HP to bring back TouchPad for last production run

Hewlett-Packard will bring back the TouchPad for one last production run in the wake of the explosion of consumer interest in the platform.

On August 19, HP slashed the price of the 16GB TouchPad to $100, setting off a buying frenzy online and at electronics stores such as Best Buy. HP's action came after announcing the shuttering of its WebOS device business. The TouchPad uses the WebOS operating system.

In a post on a company Web page, HP said a limited supply of TouchPads will arrive in the coming weeks.

    ...
"A limited supply are coming, and it will be a few weeks before they are available. As we know more about how, when, and where TouchPads will be available, we will communicate that here and through e-mail to those who requested notification," said Mark Budgell, public relations manager at HP.

"HP will be manufacturing a limited quantity of TouchPads with WebOS during our fourth fiscal quarter 2011, which ends October 31," he said.

    ...
But the company will not continue to make more TouchPads following this production run to meet demand. "HP is discontinuing the development of WebOS devices and is winding down device operations within our fourth fiscal quarter 2011," HP's Budgell wrote.

They aren't going to appreciate the finer details of more advanced devices, and will have fun with a nifty toy. For someone who IS a techie, it's a nice beater unit, or something to hack around with.

HP overpriced it, and near as I can tell, the leadership doesn't know what its doing. They're getting out of the tablet business, and maybe the PC business also.

Yah it got pretty bad reviews. It appears to work fine, but it can't compete with the Ipad or other android tabs in the same catagory/price range on any single point. I mean its worse on battery life, on speed, design etc.

But hey for $100 i'd buy it for a family member who isn't a techie, they would never know the difference. Anyone who paid $600 for one of these is an asshole though lol.

I so rarely consider shopping fun that I guess I just don't get it.
