    My problem is that what is entered into a social networking site ends up getting dumped on google search, whether it be Facebook or Google+. Future employers etc etc can find out anything about you which makes any kind of 'privacy' settings completely redundant.

    Well, it makes sense. Public is public, no? Can you enter the info, and NOT make it public?

    They can add you without your permission (it's just like following you on twitter), but you can choose what they get to see. People who add you without your permission can only see stuff you post to "public". Whenever you post/share something, it asks which circles you want to post it to, if you choose "Family" circle only, than only those in your family circle will be able to see it, and only if you choose "public" can strangers see it. So people adding you is of no consequence to you at all, and they only get to see the things you choose to share with the public.
    I do like that posting mechanism. I guess part of me doesn't like that system as I am thinking of it as friending and they can add me in their circles to filter what they post to me. I am sure it will work out though.
