Google Plus, facebook killer

My problem with Google search is that what leaks onto Google search can be very difficult to get off. If I want to search for somebody, yeah, I'll use the social networks and I'll also move on to Google Search - I don't want future employers doing the Google search bit if I can control my social networks. If I'm making sense.

I think I understand you. A google search shouldn't be a problem if the site respects "circle" or privacy settings though. Ideally a google for Frosted would give generic information from the outside of your "circle". Stuff someone would find by searching the site itself. If it bores into your account and and reveals you like goat porn, that could be an issue :^D

I kind of questioned you on this before, but didn't really pursue it. I'm having trouble with the distinction. If I want to search "Frosted", I would target the social networks first before doing a general Google search. Excluding Google from search results strikes me as false security. The only options for a network are searchable, and unsearchable.

I love that everything new, hardware or software, is immediately a somrthing killer. Like there can not be 2 of anything in the PC world that can both be successful. How many phones have been the Iphone killer? (I am not an Iphone user, I love my droid, but there is no ihphone killer out there, no matter how many claim to be). And now google + is the facebook killer. Why can't facebook survive because of Google? Just always love the immediate "something killer" when something new comes out. In the real world, something new comes out in competition with something else, thats exaclty what its called, competition. But in the online world, every new product is going to put the old one out of business. I would think if Google+ is going to be that great, then the Facebook designers can just steal their idea's and incorporate it into facebook to keep up with the Jone's. I don't know, maybe I am wrong, but there have been very few "killers" at all.

The maiin thing I liked about it is that it gives you an option for not leaking your stuff all over Google Search, but that renders me unsearchable on Google + I think. Which is pointless.

I don't see this taking off, I really don't. There are several things wrong with it. 1) Facebook is annoying as hell, but it works. So many people are on there, so if you're looking for someone you used to know, you will likely find them there. 2) Per item 1, why learn a new format, when it hardly proves to be better. Sure, they implemented some nice ideas, but in the end, it's all the same, just with nobody there. 3) No personalization of the profile page, like pictures and such. That was what was cool about myspace. 4) It's basically limited to those with gmail accounts. While this is not technically true, Google has high hopes that in order to join the "fun", everyone will get a gmail account and use Google exclusively. It's their big **** you to Yahoo. 5) Nobody is on there. I said that already... but really, who is going to join, and why? I know it's foolish to think that Facebook is the end-all, be-all of social networking. Of course it will be repleaced, again and again. But is this Google+ really different enough? Intuitive enough? I have a Facebook account, but I don't care to post much of anything as it is, I just use it as a tool to see what long-lost friends are up to and as a way to contact them. In my opinion this is a bust, but I'll keep the account and see what I can do with it. If anything, it's a 2011 redux of Texasmade's beloved #IRC or whatever -- we can get some snuson heads up in some kind of chatroom and shoot the shit. But we already have that here and it's not well-used. So... sgreger... thanks for the invite... but I ask you since you seem to be somewhat gung-ho on it. Why are you beating off to Google+?

But - I endorse the above comments. I just don't see how it's going to be a Facebook killer. I don't see why everybody is going to move over from Facebook. Why would anybody move from a simple format like Facebook to yet another one which is slightly less intuitive. They've got to move all their stuff over and everything.

I do like the fact you can video chat, if you want, but Facebook is bringing that in anyway.

The overall 'ambience' isn't that appealing either.

Yah because I have to add you to my contacts in Gmail by emailing you one time. After that your in my contacts and I can add you through plus. At least that's how I was told to do it. I noticed about 6 or more of you are on there now, but some didn't get it in their inbox. I don't know if google is selectively mailing them or what, because some of the people I sent invites too it says "sharing via email only" meaning that it will email them whatever I post on my wall but not invite them. I don't know I just started using the thing, it took a bit to get my wife on but I think they opened up the gates again so it shouldn't be a problem.
