I'm not doing anything special. I'm still sick with a cold or something. Happy St. Pats day though. Ireland is on my short list of places in the world to live. Great music, weather, and beer :^)

Where did you get great weather from? In the north (i.e. from west to east of the north) it continually p***es it down.

        !! What a great statement

I am of Irish decent but it's not like I feel it coursing through my veins or anything, although I do kind of drink a lot of beer, but today is a great excuse to throw a big delicious corned beef in the crock pot and buy some good whiskey. My girl is calling for some car bombs but I don't want to pass out at 9:30 so I'm getting 4 little soldiers of Bushmills and Bailys, a 4 pack of Guinness, then regular beer without that shit in it. And I am wearing a green and white checkered shirt.

I'm not trying to be difficult here - it's a genuine question. Why is everybody eating corned beef?

              Sounds like Ireland, no?

I don't know about the corned beef thing. I suspect that's American Irish.

We buy our corned beef from a Jewish deli and that makes no Irish sense

Why do people refer to Saint Patrick's Day and Corned beef as to being Irish ?!

I just got this off Wikipedia...
                        Saint Patrick's Day
In the U.S. and Canada, consumption of corned beef is often associated with Saint Patrick's Day.[11] Corned beef is not considered an Irish national dish, and the connection with Saint Patrick's Day specifically originates as part of Irish-American culture, and is often part of Saint Patrick's Day celebrations in North America.[12] In Ireland, the closest traditional dish is Bacon and Cabbage (more akin to Canadian style bacon or ham), as Beef was considered a less desirable meat. Corned beef and cabbage became popular in the U.S. after Irish immigrants in the northeast used corned beef instead of pork in the dish. This substitution was likely due to the low cost of corned beef in the U.S.
Corned beef was used as a substitute for bacon by Irish American immigrants in the late 19th century.[13] A similar dish is the New England boiled dinner, consisting of corned beef, cabbage, and root vegetables such as carrots, turnips, and potatoes, which is popular in New England and parts of Atlantic Canada.
Hmm ... they say corned beef is a popular dish in U.S and Canada on St. Patrick's day... nothing about Ireland or UK though..

Any reason is a good reason to eat a corned beef brisket. I bought three extras to put in the freezer while it is dirt cheap. Can't beat $1.99 a lb for any kinda beef let alone corned brisket.

Oh! And I baked a soda bread last night. Put the Brisket in the oven an hour ago and am about to peal some carrots, wash some potatoes, and slice some cabbage which is soon to be sauteed in butter and seasoned with salt an pepper. Oh yeah and i just cracked my first beer! Cheers!

Yeah, I was wondering about the corned beef too. No-one eats that over here any more. Well, not since the seventies, anyway.
