    Smoking ban in private homes.

There's been a discussion in Norway lately, wether the government should ban smoking in private homes if you have children, or not.

In one way, I get it, but still... It's your private home.

    Here are the arguments.

    For:
It reduces passive smoking for the children.

    Against:
You should have full freedom in your own house.
It will be hard to regulate.

    What do you think?

Nobody should be able to tell you what you can or cannot do in your own home.
When I was a kid, everybody smoked and I breathed in a hell of a lot of smoke. It hasn't curtailed my health - I don't however know what the long term consequences will be.

I guess it's a moral decision for the individual. I gave up smoking because I loved my kids and wanted to be around for them - also for their health.

NEVER EVER let the government into your house.

When I smoked, we NEVER smoked inside. It really is bad for you and anyone else in the house, but the government banning it in private homes? Not very cool at all. That's creeping more and more into 1984 territory.

There's a city near me that already bans it:

Oh and you can't smoke in a car with anyone under 18 in the whole state:

Cities doesn't have authority as in the US. Oslo couldn't ban plastic bags as some has in the US.

You can't smoke in the car, but you can drive thru to McD's and load up on fast food for your kids so they can get diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.

I was going to post something similar. Why are kids in cars anyway? Those are way too dangerous to put kids in. I think the government should just take all children at birth, and return them after they've reached age 18. The government is much better at parenting, and social engineering in general than the subjects are.

You can't smoke in the car here either. Nor drink, eat or anything like that. The driver's attention should always be focused on the road. Of course the passangers can eat, smoke etc.

it is illegal here to smoke in the car if you have underage children, at homes, it depends on the landlord if you are renting, many houses do specify that you can not smoke inside the house

My home is my castle. No government should tell us what to do or not to do in our own private property!

Denmark has always been more liberal than us and the Swedes. I bet you'll never get such a ban. Maybe the day North Korea has a full market economy.

Did you ever really think they were going to stop making (can't) laws after the ban in bars/restaurants? This will eventually get to can't use any form of tobacco around children.

OK, so the law would be voted ... and hum ....

Am I an idiot or what? Norway has a population of a little over 4 million .. how the hell would they be able to monitor that many people if they ****ing smoke or not in their own homes?

Either ways .... smoking in your house ... especially with kids around is called stupidity and moreover putting your child's health in risk not only your own.

I've breathed a lot of smoke as a kid...... enough to get me hooked on nicotine at 12 - 13 probably .... lol

Another problem would be that in the winter time ... it gets really cold in Norway ... even in Oslo ..... I've seen -22 -28 many times .... (celsius) ...

now everyone would have to freeze their ass twenty times a day or even more to sustain their habit...... it's insane...

quitting smoking is probably THE best option an smoker has...

Norway was the first country to ban smoking in public buildings, the first to ban in restaurants/bars and now maybe the first to ban in private homes IF there are children around. Jens Stoltenberg's government is capable of everything. Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland has wine monopolies. So only the government can sell wine.

                            Here's a Norwegian store.

Some people of the f***ing SV, Sosialistic Leftparty, wants to have a tobacco monopoly as well. Luckily, Arbeiderpartiet, Labour Party, are against this, so they can't get it through. THANK GOD!

Well, actually, we have a population of 4.9 Haha, no how the heck can they control it. Teachers in Norway have one-to-one talks with their students on a monthly basis where they ask for things like that, but still. Kids lie...
