Watching Man vs Food and craving BBQ! Texas has some great places! Where'd ya get your best BBQ? Are you a sauce or a rub person? I am going to go for lunch now to talk my partner into it!!

No idea. I don't really eat that. I used to like James River canned BBQ with lots of Tabasco and coleslaw on top; pretty good.

Awesome rub with the option for an excellent sauce.

I live in central Alabama. Almost all BBQ is good, here. The best is when you do it yourself.

I am a dry rub guy. Sometimes I will baste with a thin sauce to keep it from getting too dry. Thick sauces burn to a nasty, black mess.

In Australia I live off the BBQ near every night. I guess the question for me isn't sauce or rub. It's beer or bourbon? turn meat in one hand drink in the other

Agree! There is a lot of great BBQ in my home state of Oklahoma, but Wisconsin BBQ sucks! So I bought a smoker, and learned how to make my own!

I make my own rub, but I don't think I could make a better sauce than Sweet Baby Ray's Honey BBQ sauce. I use a dry rub on ribs and pork shoulder while it's cooking, then sauce when it's done. I brine my chicken before I smoke it. I like doing bologna too, and I need to make it more often.

Moving here from the UK i was used to english bbq, black outside - pink inside. Didn't take long before i got into grilling then bought a cheap water smoker then an offset. Now we rarely go out to eat BBQ, once you've figured out how to do it yourself it just isn't the same.

I do make my own rubs but haven't mastered a good sauce yet. I am getting close with a smoked Vidalia onion sauce though. Till i get that right my fav sauces at the moment are Sweet Baby rays hot and spicy and Famous Dave's Georgia mustard.

Rob - have you checked out www.smoked-meat.com/forum. They are a really good bunch with a wealth of knowledge. I'm learning to make my own sausage too thanks to that site.

I always do my own barbecue. It's a good excuse to sit outside, drink beer, and jam my music for 6 hours and the wife can't complain because I'm handling dinner. I use a rub prior to smoking the meat , use a mop sauce every hour on the hour, and then I baste it with my own homemade bbq sauce during the final 30 minutes. I just use a Chargriller with a side firebox that I have made numerous mods to. Good stuff.

Yeah, Aussies don't go out for a Barbie unless we're going to a mates house for lunch/dinner. Not too fussy either. As long as the steaks cooked and the beers a plenty, we're a happy chappy!

We're gonna fire up the ol' grill this weekend, grill some soy burgers and dogs, brew some beer, spin some vinyl, and drink some beer!
