The U.S. would most definately take a serious kicking if a war broke out. Yeah, you'd win but with a huge casualty rate - nothing like the death rate of Iraq or Afghanistan which has been really low. 2 million people were killed in total in the Korean civil war.
Also - ok, the U.S could take down a nuke - if the sytems actually work on the day but does the world really need or want to see a nuke launched - at all. I wouldn't put anything past these fruit cakes.
I'm not saying this is going to be a Vietnam but knowing the land in Korea, it's a bugger to fight through.
Yes you've got the air power, but so do they. You've got to win that battle first as you well know.

    1) against n korea we would not take a serious loss. We took down two armies and hundreds of thousands of insurgents and only lost like 4k guys over 9 years, not bad at all.
2)against china we would be ****ed and may even lose. My point is that china will not wage war with the US just to help n korea, it would come at too great of a financial loss. Us vs. China is another story, they are at the least equal with us, though i think the us will prevail, weve learned to keep an ace up our sleeves. Notice all those reports of flying saucers? Lol

    3) missile defense technology is far greater than they lead on in the news. Everything the army releases for the news has already gone through the propaganda dept. That being said, it would most likely work, especially with how far n korea is from us, we'd have plenty of notice.

    4) air superiority is one of the first things we'd establish, i mean do you not think saddam hussein had an airforce? First we go in and precision strike their anti aircraft assets, then later on we come with the jets and take over all of their airports. We would have air superiority in no time, like we always do.

Funny how we used to have those things before china came into the market. And business would find a way like they always do, unemployment would not be up that high.

Also, being in the road warrior would be awesome!

Obama needs another 9/11. Let's hope it doesn't happen.

The DPRK "air force" barely even know how to fly their planes. Hell, 10 years ago neither did China's. Why would N. Korea nuke Seoul? That's like Sacramento destroying Los Angeles with nuclear fall-out and radiation to follow. Same reason Delhi isn't going to fire off on Islamabad. It's a standoff, one has to have the same weapon as one's opponent, even though they both know that the trigger gets pulled by both parties if one fires. Moreover, DPRK needs Seoul and Pusan, with all of their infrastructure and resources, intact in order to achieve a successfully united Korea. And China is barely holding onto diplomatic support of the DPRK. They mean next to nothing to them. In fact, they are more of a nuisance since China does nothing but provide assistance and deal with DPRK refugees running all over China from Shenyang all the way to Kunming in order to get through to Cambodia and cross the Mekong to file for proper asylum in Bangkok. The only way to *really* piss off China is to **** with Taiwanese separatism. That is all my humble opinion on the matter, nothing more.

Excellent analysis Roo-man. In any large scale invasion the Norks would suffer massive casualties from S.K. and U.S. airpower. I doubt what aircraft the DPRK has would even get a chance to launch but even if they managed that they wouldn't have the slightest chance to do anything but promptly make big holes in the ground. The skies around the border would be swarming with drones and attack jets, after the Wild Weasels took care of the Nork's AA installations, which might or might not work at all when needed. Even though the North's army is much larger than the South's it would not be anything like a fair fight. A kill ratio of at least 10 to 1 in favor of the South would not surprise me. I also suspect that there would be massive surrenders of DPRK units at the first opportunity. Not that any of this is the least bit likely. This current business is just the lunatic leaders of the DPRK stamping their tiny little feet. They would have to be plainly suicidal to actually attack in force and I doubt they really are. Inbred neurotic whack jobs maybe but probably not suicidal.
