Since the 90's? That long? Until a few years ago I had a number of mono classical records I got new in the late 1950s. Interestingly although obviously they were missing stereo's trademark soundstage the quality of the sound and the pressings was excellent and strictly on that basis only the audiophile vinyl of today surpasses them, mainly because recording technologies are so much better now. Seems bizarre to contemplate now but once upon a time even the most serious sound systems only had a single speaker.

I have a pretty modest collection. 100-150 records. Mostly 70's and 80's rock with some crooners. A lot of Broadway stuff, old Billy Joel and Elton John, some Beatles.

I've been getting my girlfriend into it lately. I got her a newer record player with a modern look. We're both big DMB fans, so I got her the recent Big Whiskey record and (I mentioned this in another thread somewhere) made her a 4 LP set of a concert she went to back in 2005, complete with custom sleeves and everything (since this wasn't available on vinyl), had to have a fan recording remastered, but she loved it.

Back in the late 70's/early 80's I used to buy tons of records and I had many rare punk, reggae, and independent singles and live bootleg LPs. I sold most of it way too soon and wish that I would have waited. In the age of eBay the first pressings and long out-of-print gems would be worth a lot of cash. Hopefully it all eventually ended up in the hands of collectors that will treasure it.

My turntable has an Apple TV and a Wii sitting on the dustcover and I don't think I've played a record or a CD in 3 or 4 years. When I want to hear a specific song or artist these days I'll go to Youtube or search the web for an MP3, even if it is something that I already own on vinyl/cd/MP3.
