Hey everyone! Glad to finally find a well thought out forum to explore. I was a cigarette smoker for 15 years until late 2009. Then I found the world of E-Cigs. Not bad, but kinda messy and embarrassing in more than one way. I saw a story on the news about snus and got interested. But I cant help but think I have started out on the wrong foot here. Today I bought a 6 pack of Marlboro Red snus at my local corner store. Kinda dry and tastes a bit like dip and it made me want to spit. Then about an hour later I stopped by a local tobacco shop and bought the only kind of snus they offered, Camel Mellow. I am beginning to think that there is no buzz offered by snus. Someon PLEASE correct my thinking. What brands/flavors and stores should I start on? Any and all commebts will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! :?

Hi, derek. Try to find General around town. You should be able to do it in Austin; someone may even post where. That's probably the only brand of Swedish snus you'll be able to find locally, but it's a good one with which to begin. I'd suggest the original portions or the loose, for starters. If you think you might like a drier portion, choose the whites. If you like wintergreen or mint, you might see those versions of General available around town as well. I'm not so crazy about the dry mint minis, myself, and they'll be closer to the disappointing Camel "snus".
You could order from Getsnus.com or Northerner.com's US warehouse, and also try Ettan, Grov, or maybe Thunder Frosted, which seems very popular. It's all down to your taste. Maybe throw in a can or two of Skruf or Goteborg's Rapé as well.
...adding, I mentioned Getsnus and US Northerner only because that'd be quicker to get started, and they'll have the snus I mentioned. There's nothing at all wrong with other vendors, like Buysnus, or Northerner's main operation in Sweden, or Snus Central (whose orders are fulfilled by Buysnus). I like and order from them all.

Welcome Derek!
We got a lot in common sounds like, both from Texas, tired of smoking, e-cigs didn't do the trick, and had a disappointing first run in with SNUS.
Now I haven't tried the Marlboro, but I did try Camel and it was just completely unattractive to me. I don't know that it was bad per se, but the nic delivery didn't really feed the bull dog and it was overly sweet.
I found some General White at a local shop and it has taken care of the nic cravings pretty darn well, though I was only a half-pack/day smoker. However for whatever reason it was over the top salty on me, starting to think I got an old/stale w/e can. Just tonight I got some General Wintergreen White and it's much more my speed.
I've got a couple of specific flavors on order but I'm going to go back and order a variety pack. There are just so many flavor/strength options. If you're serious about quitting the cigs I think you should try a wide variety.
Good luck and hope you find one you dig soon!

You can find a shop near you that sells General snus by going to the Generals website and clicking the "where to buy" tab. You can also get free samples from their site but honestly I put in for the samples and received 2 orders from 2 different sites that I ordered AFTER the samples faster.
Good Luck
Top 10 pack from The Northerner is recommended.
PS. Texas Snusers represent! LOL

Hey derek5l my brother lives in Austin and I am in New Braunfels. There are plenty of real snus to be had, that Camel crap you bought just through it out. Go to www.generalsnus.com and look up your zip code. Try some General White Portion and General Loose both are great. Then order online if you like.

You went out for a steak dinner.....................you got served spam.
I really recommend going on line and ordering a variety. General is a very big brand but there are a lot of others out there to choose from. Try a variety of flavors, sizes and strengths.
Oh and welcome to the forum

My advice to total newbies, is get 5 cans from getsnus, and they give you a free can, which makes it like free shipping, as their shipping is cheap as it is.
If you want something you can feel, I'd say Thunder brand, if you want a strong flavor, Thunder Frosted. If you want a strong non sweet flavor, Thunder Original, or Oden's Extra Stark. Lot's of fans of Skruf Stark, and Extra Stark too.
Plus, I would get some non-starks as well, and rotate them with the starks. General Original is very good. Personally, I like Offroad Original, it has a bold flavor, and very slight sweetness.
This way, you get a total of 6 cans, of various brands and types, you don't spend much too. And it's enough to know if you will like it or not.
But also, I believe, snus for many is an aquired taste, because for me, it was not like anything I'd had before, and sometimes they seem very salty, but if you stick with it regularly, like 4-6 or more a day, you will become accustomed to that in about a week.
