    Eclipse cigs

Yeah, I know it's not snus, but it is an alternative innovative tobacco item, and might interest people, like e-cigs.

I just lit up an Eclipse Menthol. Now I used to smoke years and years ago, and now I might have the odd cig. But I was curious of these, as it seemed the science behind it was similar to the e-cig. I also liked the idea of being able to "smoke" in the house.

Well, I am impressed. To me, it is just like a regular cig. I was suprised at the amount of "smoke" it makes. Thick, and even able to blow smoke rings. Darn, it just died on me. I guess that's when you know it's out. It just stops. I'll time the next one.

Not bad though... kinda high... but I guess comparable to name brand cigs these days. I need a soda.

I'm only familiar with the name. How do they work? How does the burning mechanism work?

Theres a vaporization coil in the cigarette. It heats the tobacco around the coil so it vaporizes the tobacco and doesn't burn it. Ive had em when i used to smoke. Tastes kinda funky but after a couple packs, you get used to em. They were hard to find where i live (Massachusetts). I could only find one store around my area that sold em. CVS is your best bet. Almost every place around me thats a CVS always had em. Might be a regional thing though.

OK, they look just like a regular cig. Come 20 to a pack. On the shelf next to the regular cigs. It seems to be 3 compartment, the end is a heating element of some type, it does get hot, the next stage is a tube of tobacco, and then, a filter. The heating element, when drawn on, pulls the heat through the tobacco. I think it's glycerin in the tobacco that makes the "smoke", and is filtered. My wife hates cigs and there is no smoking in the house, so I lit it up in the house, and she said she did not smell anything. The cig does not burn down, no ashes. I guess when the heating element is burn up, it's done. I'll time the next one. The tip is hot, but no flame. You start it with a lighter and take a few puffs. I'll try the non menthol now.

OK, I just smoked a non-menthol. Lit it up, noticed the time was 2:49pm. Smoked it like regular, sat on the couch... noticed the smoke had stopped, got nothing out, noted the time, it was 2:58pm.

If you want to stop smoking, and took up snus for this, I cannot recommend this, because it is just like smoking. Now, from what I read, this seems better than regular smoking from a health issue. But it may get people back to smoking, but then if one isn't liking snus, I guess it's similar to e-cig as a better alternative to real smoking.

          Lasted 9 mins for me.
I don't want to do more than 2 a day.
I do think these harm reduced cigs should be cheaper.

Here's a diagram of how they work. Unfortunately, these cigarette produce more carbon monoxide than regular ones! As well, they still produce a good amount of tar and nicotine when measured by FTC methods; 4mg Tar, 0.4mg Nicotine. However, the amount is probably higher because most people don't smoke like machines.

I have tried them before, and they definitely give you a buzz comparable to a regular cigarette. If you smoke them harder, they give you a bigger buzz. I have not smoked one in several years though. Like I said before, I'm skeptical of the health "benefits".

But is it "better", health wise, that a regular burning cig?
I'll limit to 2 a day. Doubt I'll rebuy. Just curiosity got me.

That looks like an interesting gimmick, but not something I have to get considering the price. I'd buy them, and end up wishing I got Luckys or Camels.

Well, I don't want to be a regular smoker. And at 5 bucks a pack, it is high, but if I only smoke 1-2 a day, these 2 packs will last me a while. I liked being able to sit here in our "smoke free" home, and puff on it. Like an e-cig, this may be able to pass for one at a bar, as there is no burning, just heat being pulled through tobacco.

I tried these towards the end of a 6 month or so quit attempt (i've had a 6-7 quit smoking attempts). Since I hadn't had a smoke for awhile, they tasted fine and did the job.

However, I tried one once I was back smoking again and thought they tasted like complete ass. I pulled one out a party at a friends house and everyone was wondering what the **** was burning. I told them what it was, they tried a drag, and gagged.

So, probably not the best thing to go to if you are used to smoking cigarettes. But if you've quit for awhile, and are feeling the urge, these will get you by until you can control the mental aspect of quitting, which is by far the hardest part in my opinion.

I can't remember the name of the brand I tried years ago, but I'm pretty sure it was Eclipse. I didn't know they still made them.

Tasted like burnt hair....I'll never smoke those damn things ever again. :P

I did not know they still made these. I found they do taste like crap and if I smoked a lot of them the next day I woke up with a nasty headache gust like when I have a huge hookah session. I think it is from the carbon monoxide. I think if you are going to spend the money on a smokeless cig product spend the money on the e-cig. I think they taste better and I have never had issues with headache issues with them.

Well, I read they made a cig called Premire, that didn't catch on, but was the prototype for Eclipse. I also think todays Eclipse is an improved version of an earlier Eclipse, I think the filter was changed.

Yeah, an e-cig does seem cool. But for me, I really don't want to be a regular smoker at all. The big up front for e-cigs kinda turn me off, then you have all this stuff. Maybe someday, but with these Eclipse, I won't smoke more than 1-2 a day. So 2 packs I bought will last a little while.

Not being a regular smoker now, I didn't think these tasted bad. Did get a little unpleasant aftertaste, but I'd get that with regs too.
