    Vaporizer

So, after 28 months of using snus. I plan on finally giving up smoking. Green stuff, not tobacco.

Just makes sense. I smoke as much "other" as I smoked cigarettes. OK, so maybe no that much, but I am rather serious. So what sense does it make to go with snus if am still inhaling burned particles. So after much reading, finding a fabulous vape forum, am getting the Vapor Genie when get paid next month. Lot's of reasons why, can't break, just LOVE pipes, portable, etc.

So reading the Vapor genie site, of course it is called a tobacco pipe when it's ships, and all the instructions talk about tobacco.

So got me thinking. Vaping tobacco.

So as folks probably know, I am firmly n the "I am not gonna worry, I suspect I will still be able to get my snus despite all the recent craziness" camp. Still, can't help think "what if" I can't. As i have posted often, I will never give up nicotine. It is medicinal for me and really can't function well with my ADHD without it. So this past week, i just figured, worst case scenario, i go back to smoking cigarettes. But that just depresses me.

So suddenly, getting the vaporizer, i realize that may be a much better option. Am I wrong in assuming that vaporizing tobacco would make it essentially, as safe, if not even safer than snus??

What would be the best tobacco. good roll your own, what about pipe tobacco. What would give me the best nicotine hit?

Anyone else use a vaporizer for tobacco or "other" ?

The only frustrating thought is. Despite any "safety" improvements, a vaporizer would put me right back on that up and down nicotine ride I suspect. Honestly, although like the safty factor of snus, the real reason love my snus is that the nicotine delivery is SO smooth Kinda like the difference between being in a maximum security jail, only being allowed to move while chained up, with a sadistic guard that loves to suddenly yank on the chain, compared to strolling casually along a wooded path n one of the super minimum security, Club Fed like jails. mean I am addicted to nicotine regardless but snus makes is so much more comfortable.

That's a damn interesting idea! I qould think that pipe tobacco being a littlle more moist and flavored than cig tobacco would be less harsh. I wouldn't even hazard a guess on the nic hit though.

Please keep us updated and let us know the results and your tobacco reviews!

It certainly works with the "green stuff", but regarding tobacco I have some serious doubts. How can the nicotine be freebased?

But what the heck, if you need a vaporizer anyway. Just try it, sagedil!

      Cheers!

Yeah, go for it. I've tried it in Amsterdam a couple of times  and I can't see why it shouldn't work with other leafs ...

It would be interesting to hear the result. The 'standard' european way to roll a joint involves 'toasting' normal tobacco and mix it with either (or both) marihuana and hashish. The toasting is supposed to 'vaporize' the nicotine, but I've always wondered if that really happened. I guess your experiments will put it to the test ... keep us updated!

Sounds like the same idea as Camels Eclipse cigs. They were supposed to be much healthier than regular smokes.

I (highly) recommend the vapor genie.

It takes a little getting used to: the vapor is much much milder in taste, but the effect is just as good as ignition-smoking.
My lungs have never been better since I've switched to snus and a v-genie!

It does take some getting used to, but its an awesome vaporizer. And for the price (since his big brothers are anywhere for $500 to $1200). I've used it for pot and the shitty herbs it comes with, not yet tobacco. But if it works on that shitty herbal crap, why not tobacco?

Here's the deal. The recent tobacco tax increases which kicked in on 4/1/09, caused my old brand of ryo baccy to go from $12 a pound to $45 a pound. Ryo baccys therefore, are not even worth dealing with any more. The smart ryo companies, have begun bagging 'pipe cut' baccys, which are meant to be ryo baccys anyway, but are much lower in cost, due to being taxed at the pipe rate instead of the ryo rate.

What resulted from this, is a line of the TOP (ex-ryo now pipe cut) baccys are actually CHEAPER now than even low-grade RYO such as Gambler. This company used to be called Daughters and Ryan, but is now called "Trish's Cafe." (Trish is one of the daugthers!) The company is located in Smithfield, NC.

Here's the breakdown on some of their flavors:

Penhooker - Canadian Virginia (excellent when blended with 1/4 Ramback/Turkish OR by itself.)

Ramback 100% Turkish (friggin AWESOME Turkish. Blend 1/3 of this with other baccys and give a stick to a Camel smoker. Camel smoker will hate Camel from then on, having learned what a REAL Turkish cig is supposed to taste like.)

Rowland - Chocolate - SERIOUS Chocolate. This stuff smells like truffles

Rowland Platinum - better Marlboro red than Marlboro itself

Two Timer - double toasted burley - think Lucky Strike

Vengeur - the light version of this (maybe called silver now?) will make a Marlboro light smoker tell you it is better than Marlboro light itself.

Windsail - British Virginia <---friggin phenomenal (excellent when blended with 1/4 Ramback/Turkish or by itself)

Ramback Balkan - 50/50 blend of Turkish/Virginia and very light as a result.

There are other variations of the above called silver, gold or platinum. You can purchase 3.5 oz. cans to try them out, with many also sold in 14 oz bags for $23 (plus shipping), which is less than $12 per carton before shipping is added in. These can be purchased here, if you wish to taste some of the finest tobaccos available in this country. They have an 800 number and are VERY helpful if you have questions. I wouldn't even order from anywhere else unless you have first gotten tobacco from this place. If you want high nicotine baccys only, call them at 1-866-942-1782 and they will tell you what to purchase.

Another pipe cut that is very good is the Smoker's Outlet online, although I have personally only sampled the 'natural.' They also have a 'robust' at $17.95 for 12 ounces, which puts it right under $2 per oz after shipping, found here.

I know vaporizing works. Lots of nfo out on the web, even a thread about it on my Vape forum. Plus, it is the "official" reason these things are sold. If they didn't work for their "stated" reasons, I suppose they might get in trouble.

Will be at least probably about 2 months before I try it with tobacco. Won't be until the first week of next month before I get my Vapor Genie, and will probably spend the first month just perfecting my technique for it's primary purpose. Plus need to do some more reading about if I can just use it for both, or if using it with tobacco really messes up the taste for "other". Not that it would be too expensive to get a 2nd. Even the higher quality hand carved versions are only $65.

Will.Roberts and captncaveman, glad to see folks here who have used it. I read considerably, a 27 page thread on my other forum, and feel confident I know all it's good points and bad points. But from everything i gather, once you master it's slightly steep learning curve, it really is amazing. And as I said before, I wanted completely portable, I am wary of electronic vaporizers as so many reports of them breaking. Plus I just desperately love my pipe. I have been smoking "other" every day for going on 20 years, and I almost never use a bong despite it's benefits just because I so prefer the feel of a pipe.

And snupy, thank you!!!! I have never paid much attention to the RYO world. I will use this to guide me when the time comes.

Mostly, I am just so relieved to figure out I have some better options should our happy world really come crashing down on us. Just knowing, once again, that I always have choices s liberating,.

And btw, in case anyone is interested, the very best vaporizer forum out there, and I have seen many, is http://www.****combustion.com . Once they fix my registration issue, you should see my pretty face there as well. Whole new world to get totally obsessed with.

Edited my post so link works now.

                        Here it is again..

                        http://www.****combustion.com.

I do love the name. These folks are as serious about moving away from burning as we were with going to snus over cigarettes. One of the thing that most impresses me. One of the rules is this.

Word your posts carefully, do not state opinion as fact; we don't want to spread bad information

                        * Please try to stay within your area of experience when commenting or advising

And folks are aggressive in enforcing it. Never rude or nasty, but clearly folks believe in insisting folks follow that rule. And if you have ever spent ANY time on drug related sites, the noise to signal ratio is typically extremely bad. Not here.

So I have to share one more thing. Just got off the phone with my Mom. So my birthday is next week (whatever). I was telling her about my plans to buy a vaporizer (been out of the closet forever with my family) Led us to talk about snus, the latest law situation, why i won't give up nicotine, and my desire to stop putting ANY combusted materials in my lungs. So she brought up my birthday and asked if she sent me $100, would I use it to but a vaporizer.

So she is sending it tomorrow, and I should be able to order by the end of the week, about 2 weeks before I thought I could.

My Mommy loves me.

I have the Volcano Vape and love to use it for both, sometimes I mix em to mix up the flavors. Neither one will taste anything like they taste when combusted, especially the tobaccos. You will really enjoy all of the different flavors and feelings from each. As for whether it changes the flavor of the other, my vape uses the cooking bags so I can change them when they get old or if the flavors change, I can still taste the tobacco flavors a bit if I'm smoking pure greenery after enjoying pure tobacco but nothing really off-puting about any of the flavors so I would'nt worry much about that. Congrats and welcome to the world of Vape!!
