I tried a little nasal snuff about a year ago and really liked it. It gave a good kick. I usually got more up one nostril than the other. That resulted in most of the kick being on one side of the brain. It clearly takes some practice to use. If anyone finds a website providing information on the health risks of it, I would appreciate hearing about it.

I agree with Lambchop. Snuffing is an enjoyable experience. Especially "snuff sessions".
I like all snuffs because mainly there is such variety. The sensory experience is on a different plane from snus. I can't really say what my favorite is tho. I have more than 50 varieties. Some, like American snuff, are more like whiskey - they burn going in and hit you hard. Others are like fine wines and should be savored for their complex flavor. At the moment I like German schmalzlers. They are "smoother" and some varieties have a pretty good nic content.

Does anyone have a link to try this gutka stuff? I'm really curious now, though it doesn't sound very good. All the links I found were for buying in bulk. I sure as hell don't want a kilogram of this crap.

After all the nonsense about nuclear waste, glass splinters etc., I'm not too sure, what to believe.

But from the gutka-pictures, I have seen on the web, this stuff really seems to be anything else, than an interesting tobacco product to me.

But as per me it is the most vile form of nicotine/tobacco usage.

Highly addictive and a known carcinogen, gutka is currently the subject of much controversy in India. Many states have sought to curb its immense popularity by taxing sales of gutka heavily or by banning it outright.

Due to its often sweet taste, easy availability and cheapness, it is popular with poor children, who can exhibit precancerous lesions at a very early age as a result. Some children consider it as a type of candy. Symptoms of cancer often appear by high school or college age. Social custom does not permit children in India to smoke cigarettes, so gutka use, being all but invisible to others, is the method of choice.

After it is consumed, it is generally spat onto a wall or the ground, causing an unsightly red stain that is quite resistant to the elements. Some building owners have taken to combating this unpleasantness by painting murals of gods on their walls, with the idea that gutkha-chewers would not spit on a god.

Has anyone tried a shisha/hooka? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hookah) I used to smoke them a lot and am thinking of getting a 24"'er when I move into my new house. They are much healthier them normal smoking and good when you have some friends round.

There is something about having a giant Arabian water pipe topped with burning coals that appeals to me. The tobaccos comes in so many different flavours. From coconut to coffee to beef....ok well maybe not beef but you get the idea

This, I guess, is partly a myth, since tar is not water-soluble. The nicotine, though, surely gets filtered to some extent.

I haven't tried them, and now, that I have found snus, I think, I'll never go back to smoked tobacco.

Apart from that, yeah, hookahs have a certain appeal, so, if you like it, just smoke it. 8)
