Toast is finely ground, and traditionally plain tobacco, but many, notably Toque flavor them. They are a little trickier for the newb to take, but are very worth it for a simple "plain" scent. The Irish toast is plain tobacco, with a certain nuttiness to it.
Scotch is basically the American version of the English/Irish toast. Ground even finer, is many times smoky, and can also be sweet. The most challenging for the newb imo. They're very difficult to use, but once mastered are a very rewarding snuff.
SP The classic English scent. AFAIC the only true SP is bergamot scented, though some other companies do some weird stuff and call it SP. Toque Original is a fine example.
Medicated is a menthol snuff. They range from warm and rich(McCrystal's O&G) to quite sharp and biting (Hedges).
Kendal Brown is a coarse slightly moist snuff. It smells like it uses tonka bean for scent, but it may be something else(I have a hard time identifying many of the old school English scents).
Perfumed is a highly scented snuff that smells very...um... fru fruish if that makes sense. It's kind of 19th century metro :^D Some I like, some I don't. They can be a bit much, but are nice on occasion.
You have to try them all to decide what you like. It's hard going by other's descriptions. I personally like the German styles. They tend to be moist, and most of the time light-medium menthol. I like the English menthol too, as well as the SPs. Santo Domingo is perfumed, but moist and coarse. That's probably my favorite of that type. Other perfumed smell very flowery, and feminine. Geeze... I like almost all of them, but German is my favorite. I've only had a couple I just didn't like at all. There's some I wouldn't get again, but liked well enough.
