Okay, I just completed an order at Toque for the ten tin sampler. I got:

Apricot, Berwick Brown, Cherry, Natural Toast, Natural, Original, Rose, Spanish Gem, SP Extra, St Clements

Jeez, I feel like a kid who has to wait another week for Christmas. But 100g of snuff, that's a lot. At least it will be for me. (And as a side note, I'll be receiving my online order of snus this week, so it really does feel like Christmas.)

Before you throw in the towel on menthol snuffs, order a tin of McChrystals Original & Genuine. I'm not a fan of menthol either, but this snuff is great. Its a mix of menthol, eucalyptus, camphor, and some floral scents. Very easy to take, and probably one of the top 5-10 snuffs worldwide in sales. I like to take a pinch when my nose gets a bit stuffy from other snuffs. Clears me right out. First thing in the morning is great too. It takes me from groggy to fully awake in 10 seconds.

I will keep that in mind. As I wait for my Toque shipment to arrive (hopefully tomorrow), I've been using the Poschl and I've grown a lot more accustomed to it. I assume it mellows a bit once it's been opened. That first try was way too overpowering. I still cann't distinguish between the flavors I ordered, but at least I haven't wasted my money. I will finish them.

If you've changed your mind on menthol snuffs, but don't want ones where the menthol is overpowering, you may want to try some Indian varieties. They generally use only a light touch of menthol, and combine it with other fragrances, floral or incense-like. The menthol only adds a slight cooling effect.

I'm not really a non mentholated snuff fan, but I think going with Toque is the best bet.

My order has arrived. I wanted to try something really different than I've tried so far, so I tried the Cherry right away. I've gotten used to the very moist Poschl, and I have to say I thought the Toque seems strong. Man, I can still feel it and it's been over twenty minutes. I have a feeling the world of snuff is going to be a really interesting journey of discovery.

As a side note, I can't believe that snuff has become so archaic to most people and ever lost favor among tobacco users. It's such great stuff.

Honestly for me the hardest part was figuring out what grind and moisture level does it for me.

I found Toque snuffs to be so fresh, they had a bad ammonia smell, that to me, made the snuff have a bad effect. But I found if I dump the can out on a plate, and leave it out for a day, chopping it with credit card a few times, the ammonia will dissipate, and the good tobacco smell will arise.

I'm noticing that already with my little experience with snuff. It seems like it needs to breathe a little and mellow out, and then it's a lot better. And yeah, figuring out one's preference for grind and moisture is quite an adventure, and clearly I can't make any premature judgments.
