I am seeing what looks like white specks of dust on the soil where the Rustica and Perique were scattered, which means the seeds are beginning to sprout.

I just started my 4 varieties last night since it's not really planting season here till mid May. Although, if this weather keeps up, it may come sooner than that.

to be honest if you wouldn't have linked that other forum I would still be doing research. it helped out a lot. i'm going to be growing the rustica's indoors and the others outdoors(except for a few plants of each which I'll also be growing indoors)

I treated the Turkish in the same manner as the Virginia, then ground them both finer in a coffee grinder:
This stuff is like dust or talcum powder and ends with 2 ounces of finely ground tobacco.

This basic recipe will give people who want to experiment a basic template
My latest batch has only aged for 72 hours and it isn't half bad. 8)
It still needs to continue aging but it's starting to resemble real snus
Step 1 - Days 1-6
100 grams Stokers Kentucky Dark Air Cured
100 grams water
13 grams salt
10 grams glycerine
Cook for 6 days at 85-90° C
stirred once a day and water added to keep total weight 223 grams
Step 2 - Day 7
Add
7 grams sodium carbonate + 1 gram ammonium chloride dissolved in 50 grams of water
Cook for 24 hours at 85-90° C
Step 3 - after the cook
Add
7 grams glycerine
16 drops Wright's Hickory Seasoning + 16 drops Bergamot Essential Oil dissolved in a capfull of Everclear (about 10ml total)
stir and refrigerate
Notes
The maillard reaction works better with less water.
Do the first stage of your cook with equal weights of water and tobacco.
Kentucky Dark Air Cured tobacco is a burley tobacco that is low in sugar.
The maillard process is the interaction of sugars with amino acids.
The maillard process forms new flavors and is what causes the tobacco to darken during the cook.
Adding glycerine at the start of cook helps to compensate for the low sugar content of burley
Tobacco was sieved to pass through a 400 micron screen, it has the consistency of Prima Fint
If you are an amateur at baking prillas you'll need an Icetool
ratios based on this recipe
water - 150 grams - 52.08%
tobacco 100 grams - 34.72%
13 grams salt - 4.51%
17 grams glycerine - 5.90%
7 grams sodium carbonate - 2.43%
1 gram ammonium chloride - 0.35%
flavour and alcohol ---
total - 288 grams (6.40 45g cans)

Here's the dried leaves from last year. Virginia is on the left and Turkish is on the right:
Here are the Virginia leaves, in a 16 oz tub, after being stripped from the stems and hand crushed:
Here's the same, in an 8 oz tub, after being run through a blender on the 'chop' setting:
The one Virginia plant provided 1.5 ounces of ground tobacco.

Seedman lists recommended varieties depending on whether one is looking to smoke it in cigs, in pipes, in cigars, make chew or snuff at this link. Even if you don't buy from seedman, one could use that page as a reference.
Also, seedman stands behind his seed if you have issues with it. There were three of us last year that got zero germination from the Black Sea Samsun and he replaced it no questions asked. I got some Angel's Trumpets seed from him this year as well.
