Most of these have been in 5 gal. pots for a couple weeks, the smaller ones on the right just got potted up last weekend. Not pictured is 10 more still in quart sized that I should pot up tomorrow. Sorry, my yard is kinda messy right now.
Well, I guess I can't call them my babies anymore. They are coming along nicely. I got a late start due to moving, but the climate is very mild here, so I think I have plenty of time. Gonna do some more repotting this weekend. Will post new pics. I have 7 varieties. The rusticas have flower buds already...
I am the only one seeing completely yellow leaves on the plants now, with one already turned totally brown? I've picked 6 leaves so far and have them hanging up. The Izmir-Osbas has almost no flowers left, but does have about 25-30 (or more) seed pods still attached to the plant. Another 2 or 3 of those seed pods have fallen into the bag already.
It looks like the harvest has begun yall.
Different varieties will cure differently. What variety of your tobaccos are yellowing?
My DelGold doesn't go to full yellow on the stalk. A lot of my leaves have a mottled appearance. They won't fully yellow unless they rest on the ground or they are removed from the stalk.

...Originally, the Burley grown in tobacco states like Kentucky, Virginia and Ohio were varieties called Red Burley, Little Burley, Twist Bud and Burley....
...Perique is a Red Burley, which only grows successfully in a small, wedge shaped piece of land west of New Orleans called St. James' Parish. Within St. James' Parish, the best, and only current location the Red Burley for Perique is grown, is a relatively tiny place called Grande Point Ridge, near Paullina, LA. A dark alluvial soil, (soil deposited by floods receding over the æons), found there, luxuriant and fertile, is known as Magnolia soil. This soil and the climate are perfect, and practically unique for growing the Red Burley for Perique. Growers have tried sowing the Red Burley seed, taken from plants in St. James, in places all over the world with similar climate and soil conditions without any significant success other than in the Kentucky Green River Valley, which can be grown in larger crops, and is processed to make Perique. Though not of the same quality, the St. James' Perique is rare, thus Green River is used in many blends. Some of the tobacco growing African countries have had limited success with the process, and the Perique made from these crops find their way into some of the lower priced, lower quality blends on the market, often for it's "name value" in the descriptions....
Howdy!
I was just about to order some and realized you guys probably have extras since they seem to sell in packs of hundreds. So if any of you want to sell some extras PM me.
My strains were depleted due to online trading which allowed me to expand my original 8 species to 16. I didn't realize when you posted this I did have plenty of Rose tobacco seed and Rustica on hand as well.
You know, the lady who owns this land comes from a family of farmers. She knows all of those old school farming tricks that we city boys have not a clue about.
I like the carpet idea.
I didn't know the suckers would grrow like that,it's actually kinda cool. Now will each stem produce flower pods?I'm thinking that as far as seed plants go this could be productive.
It's not recommended for leaf production. I can't imagine it would be recommended for seed production either, but have no references to prove it.
Your plants look AMAZING man. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it.
Also, for anyone else who is interested, you can purchase organza bags for the tobacco flowers at the following link: Organza Bags I have ten of these in size 20x21" in the moss green color which should be here this week. Ten bags of this size were $14.49 delivered to my door. I couldn't find them in this size at either of Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Since I am trying to get seed for 8 species, they should come in quite handy here soon and can hopefully be reused next year.
Oh I try, but always seem to have some screw-ups. It's fun, nonetheless. It's a good thing we started on this a couple of years back, now that PACT is actually a reality.

I'm only growing one type of seed this year. I wanted a seed that would grow well for my location. As much as I want to grow a Burley or Dark Air Cured...
