Let me preface this by saying that i do not consider myself even a decent reviewer of anything let alone being able to distinguish the subtleties of different snus. I am also a huge supporter of Gotlandssnus and, among many others, was very disappointed when i heard of the discontinuation of Gul los.

Secondly, just receiving this wonderful treat from Jimmy and Gotlandssnus AB put me in a fantastic mood; hence one of my favorite songs:

I had the same experience as Monkey. The second i opened the mailbox all i could smell was flader. It was fantastic. I received my samples earlier but wanted to give them time to cool off before diving in.

The packaging is great. The few other samples i have received from other manufacturers were in very lackluster packaging. Granted, it's only bags, but to me, they are great. Top quality like the regular Gotlands cans. For ease of use i transferred them to some empty Gotlands cans i had lying around. I spent at least five minutes trying to get every bit i could out of the bag.

As others have said, both of these are very easy to form. It could be due to how fresh it is, although personally i have never really had a problem with any Gotlands los since i first started using los. They are just as i was expecting they would be. Great quality, nice and fluffy, great grind, and fantastic flavor. The flavor takes a little bit to hit you like most los, but when it does, it's fantastic, like nothing i've tasted before.

I would certainly purchase both of these regularly if they were in production, which i certainly hope they will be at some point as we need something to fill Gul's place.

Thanks a lot Jimmy, you made my week.

Just got mine in the mail today and I have to say a huge thanks to ShareSnus for shipping it my way!

I've only been on the Snus wagon for about a month now but I have purchased and tried 25 different varieties. Quickly becoming a fan of Los Ettan, Prima Fint and Roda Lacket. Not caring so much for portions so far but I havent tried them all. Though I do like Romeo Y Julieta and the occasional General Mint. Anyways thats my current taste.

The Flader: As some have said you can smell it right out of the bag. Green apples was my first reaction but it didn't hit me right off the bat when I put it in. The smell / taste really reminds me of fresh picked wild apples that grew behind my house growing up. I also get kind of a tart taste also that reminds me of these black berries I have in the back yard of my current home.

I do like it but I dont think I love it. That may change by the time I am through the bag. I could still see using it once maybe twice a week.

The Plain: Is great and I think its right up there with my current top 3. It has a clean tabbaco taste and smell and I think thats all I'm really looking for. The taste wasnt too strong or overpowering, it tasted great while giving the nic hit I needed.

I would buy this for sure and I think it would fit into my current rotation quite well. So at least a can a week.

Slight side note: A few weeks ago I purchased a SnusX bucket looking for plain Los because I wanted a nice base to try and flavour and mix myself. Sadly I over looked "Portion" and I dont really care for them. If I had found this "Plain Los" in that bucket I would have been thrilled!

I have yet to try any of your Gotlands varieties but I promise to give them all a shot as a thank you. Will throw them in my next order from Northerner.

        Cheers and thanks again!

I got mine yesterday, the green los is amazing, completely blows away its portion counterpart, haven't tried plain yet, getting ready to bake a pris right now.

Got plain in now! Tastes great! Nice rich tobacco.

But yeah for the evaluation, I would definitely buy lots of both

Your awesome jimmy! This is how a snus company rep should be, keep up the good work and I hope both of these get released for sale soon.

I have been helped by this little experience.

The anger that I harbored for the death of Gul was washed away in a flood of plain los.

Don't worry about me as I hold no grudges.

I have been helped.....nay........saved by the supposed horror that you feel you have unleashed on us.

The horror of running out of a sample.

Seriously, I don't even care about trying the Flader. I haven't, and will give it a fair shot, but it is not on the top of my list.

Jimmy, if this stuff is marketed in a manner similar to the way the Kardus is, sold in a larger than usual package, maybe one of those awesome bags the samples came in, only bigger and was a special order deal or something...but I would buy a good amount of a special release as well. A batch of plain at the end of summer and a batch of Flader at the end of winter and I will be happy. Gul for the summer and Julessnus for the winter.......

Call it the the four seasons of Gotlands or something and I'd buy a kg a quarter.

                Think about it.....for me..........

I have a question for you guys,
(it may have been answered before)

How come Gotlandssnus Flader Los isn't being sold full time?

-Is it because there isn't a market for it?
(which I doubt, because its effin' delicious)

                      or

-Is it because it hasn't been approved by the FDA ?
(as far as I know, Skruff isn't approved by the FDA either, but its easily available at some e-stores)

                      Thank you guys

                        Thank you guys

I think there are two reasons

                        1) FDA approval is quite an investment of time and man hours (which in itself is not and issue if the investment is worth it......which brings us to #2)

                        2) It seems Gotlands market analysis has convinced them that los is not where they want to place their time or investments. I guess they feel that it is a niche market and that market is not expanding nor has the potential to expand at the rate that the market for portions does. Therefore they focusing on the Jackobson line (all portions) and not introducing any new los

I also believe that they feel this analysis was backed up by the sale figures for Gul.

I would counter with two points

                        1) produce a superior and unique los and capture shares of an already existing market (If Gotlands offered me the choice between Plain and say Roda.....I'd buy the plain.......whereas now........without that choice........I will buy the Roda)

                        2) the sale of Gul may be due to other factors..............a few years back it seemed to me that they changed the grind of the gul..............I do no know if there was an ingredient change along with that...........but what I can tell you is that after that it seemed much more bitter (not in an herbal way but in an aftertaste way). I can also tell you that before that Gul was one of the most recommended snuses on the forum.................after that it had a few loyal users but was seldom one of the first things people would reccomend.................or even discuss much.

The point is..............I think los is still a viable market if done right (you may have to think outside the box a bit on it) but one thing you must do is put out a superior and unique snus. Both Green and Plain fit this bill and I sincerely believe.............and I think this thread has shown.........that both would succeed if given a chance.

That's my take..............maybe Jimmy will pop in and give you the actual reason
When it's my time to go, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my uncle did....... Not screaming in terror like his passengers

I think you're pretty much right on Dog. The biggest quibble I have is with the conclusion that los isn't a viable market. If it were positioned as a premium product, it could be the cigar of the snus world. Emphasize the history, and connoisseur status, and I think it would do pretty well. I'd market it almost exclusively in tobacco shops, and let the rest follow if they choose to. Just like you see small premium cigar selections in liquor stores, you could do the same with los.

It's a shame that such quality products as flader and plain los aren't out there, when there are many many other inferior loose snusses in the market.

Hopefully Jimmy can give us some insight regarding the future of flader and plain los.

It's perplexing to me, how something as incredible as the flader los could not be a full time thing. There is obviously a market for los, as pretty much every snus company sells los. With as good as the flader los is, it should be a no brainer for them to have it for sale...perhaps in place of a different los.

                                What different los?

Anis is the only one they continue to sell. Where is the Gotlands/ Jakobsson's los for me to buy? I don't want portions.

I use Phantom and Thunder los now....and soon Odens as well.

Show me a Gotlands plain/Flader/bergamot los and I will go back to exclusive use of Gotlands products.......any los that isn't Anis or licorice.

Until then I will buy five tins of Flader portions and five tins of Jak's classic a year and that is all....and only because of how fantastic it tastes.
