how would you compare swedish snus with snus available in the shops of usa? is usa's lighter than swedish'? i might be moving to usa for a year and i'm not quite sure it will do the trick as right now red skruf is basically the only one which does

Snus isn't widely available in the USA. Camel is very sweet, and doesn't really taste like a snus product. I haven't had any of the other American brands, but maybe Copenhagen dip would work better. Really though, I'd just order from Buysnus and have it shipped to America. I think you'll be pleased with the prices(about $3.50 per tin shipped)

Seems to me American snus I've tried is for people who don't like the real taste of tobacco -- and that is a LOT of people. So Camel and Marlboro, in particular, use heavy flavoring and sweetener.
You can get some strange-tasting Swedish snus, as well, but nothing quite like Camel and Marlboro (or even SkoalDry).
I've tried the other new offerings, and don't like any of them. Keep Internet access when you come to America. You'll need it to order from Sweden.

Well, there are only three brands of snus that I know of in America. I have tried camel and marlboro and they were both pathetic attempts at producing a portion snus product. Sweden should copyright the name of snus so American companies don't tarnish the name of real snus.
As far as our chewing tobacco like copenhagen, skoal and so on, it is a lot more of a health risk as they are fermented. They also use chemicals and pretty nasty tobacco to produce a wet smelly clump of tobacco that makes you spit a lot. If I ever run out of snus I sometimes buy a can of copenhagen. It's terrible but is still better than smoking.
you won't have any problem ordering real snus online. the strange thing is that it comes really fresh and cost less than our domestic moist snuff.
welcome to america!

Lorillard - Triumph Snus. I hope it takes off here. I won't try the mint but the original's really really nice! Just a very light peach flavor. Not overwhelmingly so and not at all artifical and over-the-top like the Camel flavors. Maybe by Swedish standards it would be considered very sweet but compared to Camel I think its sweetness is natural and subtle. I wish it were available in the northeast. I'd keep it in permanent stock. It's a great change of pace compared to what are becoming my regular favorites; Onyx, N&J, General Sterk, Grov etc. Still sampling...

attitude in usa?
i googled the products you mentioned and when to decide by the appearance they all seem quite light as i've tried some white pads and they won't work.the thing is i'm coming aupairing and would rather buy it from a shop than have it ordered to my employers' home.at the same time,if available in shops then the attitude towards it should be a bit more supporting than in estonia where selling it is illegal.therefore, maybe i will have no problem ordering it?how is the attitude amongst older people generally?anyway, thanks, don't feel like a total alien anymore

If you are accustomed to Skruf Stark (red) then I'm afraid you will be dissappointed in the snus produced for the American market. Since you mentiond that shipping to your employer's address might be an issue, depending on where you will located, you might be able to find a forum member who is close enough and can place an order for you. Other than that, Swedish Match does have some retail outlets (usually in tobacco shops) in America but only for a select few of the General product line. They have a store locator on their website.
Good luck.

If you are coming here to do take care of someones kids, you probably wont want to let them know you use tobacco. Women rarely ever use oral tobacco here and to most it seems quite odd to see a woman "chewing" not only would it look strange but they would be very upset if the children witnessed you using tobacco or got into your stuff.
Keep it a secret and use it on your private time. Good luck to you.

It's made by SM after all, and I would imagine they probably apply the GothiaTek standard to it, just as if it were their own brand. At the very least, I don't feel the aspartame weirdness that I used to get with Camel when I first started.

Brit, welcome to the US - enjoy the stay. :P
First, chances are good that your employer will not have an issue with your shipping snus to your workplace. It's almost guaranteed that whoever runs the mail service where you'll be working will have never heard of "snus" before.
I see you said "employer's home" in your post. I'm not sure what kind of job you will be working on, but if I were you, I'd ask the employer if he minded if you had "a couple items" shipped to his address. He doesn't need to know what snus is. :P
As far as carrying on an airplane, I took 3 tins (one was steel (a tin of 1847), the other 2 were just plastic cases) of snus through the airport on my trip to Wisconsin last month, in my carry-on backpack - and I had no problems.
Depending on how long you are going to be staying and how much snus you use, it might be a good idea to just pack a couple of rolls of your Skruf in your suitcase and just bring it along with you.

i'm going to be and aupair and therefore as STORM6490MT said 'If you are coming here to do take care of someones kids, you probably wont want to let them know you use tobacco'.but if they might not know what snus is then ordering a 'couple of items' is maybe worth a shot.besides,if carrying three tins was not a problem then i'll just do the same and maybe later find out that the family is not so conservative as i expected and will have no problem shipping it there
and spirit72,thanks for the triumph original suggestion!

If you're coming from overseas, you only need worry about customs. Its the same pretty much every where, if you have something to declare (pay taxes on) walk this way, if not, walk this way. If you don't, you still have to stop and they check your documents but don't neccesarily check your baggage. They could, but its on a 'random' basis. I've been out of the country 20 something times and never have had my bags checked. Just smile and say yes and no and they don't care. And if they do see your snus fein ignorance about customs rules you'll just have to pay the paltry sum according to how many cans you have (its not much, and you won't even have to pay up to a certain amount, someone else can help you out here)
