Legal Question about Snuff

I don't know. I remember reading a ban on flavored smokeless in NY, but then read the Big Tobacco said it was not their right to do that, and took it to court, and the ban was overturned. If it was turned back, I don't know.

That's correct. They passed the ban last year, and this February USST/Altria took them to court to challenge the legality of it, and the ban was struck down. Then a couple of months later another judge in NY reinstated the ban and it still stands so far as I know.

@precious007, it's not just flavored dip, but ALL flavored tobacco. No flavored cigars, pipe tobacco, moist snuff, dry snuff, snus, etc. The reasoning is that tobacco companies use fruity flavors to target children; therefore by banning flavored tobacco, no child will ever again be tempted to ever try tobacco ever. Ever.

Don't forget that it was the geniuses in the NYC legal system that completely banned guns in the 1970s and ended up with the worst crime rate in the nation as a result. Then they banned video game arcades because Pac-Man and Space Invaders made kids criminals (or something just as idiotic). The good thing about NYC is that they usually realize how stupid their bans are in hindsight, it just unfortunately takes them a few decades to realize it.

Don't forget Rudy Giuliani closing down all the dance clubs, supposedly because they were perceived to be havens for drug abuse. Fortunately that one didn't last too long, but club owners and patrons still get rousted by the NYPD on a regular basis.

NYC's tobacco ban is only slightly less ridiculous and oppressive as the bans some California cities have imposed. Thank goodness I can go visit there these days (or anywhere, for that matter) without having to worry about finding a place to smoke without being hassled, thanks to snus and snuff.

LOL, I forgot about the dance club thing. I guess we should also bring up King Bloomberg's banning smoking, transfat, salty foods, and proposed limits on soda consumption.

Mind you, this flavor ban is only in the New York City limits, drive 15 minutes to 1 county over and you can buy all the flavored tobacco you want.
