First Time with Los

I just used my first Los and I have a couple of questions. I used a prismaster and the the pris was huge compared to a portion. Is the pris supposed to be so big in comparison to what I am used to with the portions? I guess that is my main question.

Also, I am probably playing with it too much and getting mudslides so I am finding that I can only keep them in for about 15 minutes - I'm obviously doing something wrong. I love the flavor of the los but it just seems too messy for me to stick with it.

There's nothing wrong with taking the pris out of the prismaster and handshaping it to something a bit more compact that fits your mouth better.

Or - just handbake a smaller pris that suits you better.

Or - get an icetool and ditch the prismaster.

3ml icetool is nice, i stick it directly under my lip with the icetool... no mess, no fuss, don't have to worry about dirty/clean hands......

Scale back on the size to a little smaller than a portion. You may have to trim and refine the pris by hand to get it down to the right size. However, about 70% of slides can be eliminated just by sizing down the pris (the rest is baking, snus brand, and acclimating). Give it time, go small, and limit your los usage to home until you are more comfortable with it. 2-3 weeks and you won't look back.

Loose does tend to have more water content than portions. So a 1ml Icetool pris is probably bigger than a 1gr portion.

I would much rather hand bake vs using a prismaster any day.

If you're stuck with the prismaster and/or can't handbake/don't want to, do what lxskllr suggests and remove the plunger, reverse it, and put it back. This will make a smaller pris. Also, if that's still too big, use your thumb to hold the depressor thingy half-way down when you insert the prismaster into the snus -- this way you can control the size. That should help. Also an easy handbaking method with a coarser grind is to make a small orb. No slide and clean removal. Pyramids are good too, flat side down. Loose pinches are good too! Practice makes less mess. Like red I switch hit and move it around. However, the upper side is where I primarily put it.
