    Snus newbie.

Hi there, I'm new to the whole snus scene, was introduced to it by a friend a year ago and I've been meaning to get into it ever since. Was wondering if a few questions could be answered. Thanks

I've just ordered 3 cans of L.D original loose from Notherner, anyone have any past experience with it? Also how long would 3 cans generally last someone.

I'm in the UK, so would shipping here be fine? I've read a bit about EU regulations and such so I'm a tad bit unsure on whats what.

I decided not to buy a icetool, seemed a bit pricey (alas, I'm a poor student ) so I'm going to practice hand-baking first (my friend hand-baked and taught me a small bit), what is recommended?

Also any tips anyone could throw my way would be most welcome! Thanks!

Hi there, and welcome to SnusOn!! Is that Morrissey? Rock on!

I see you've decided to dive right into the loose stuff. I can't say for sure how long 3 cans will last you, it all depends on how much you use. No need for an icetool, you can use your hands or a prismaster. Since you're a poor student, you're probably used to rollies anyway, so you can even put some loose in a teabag or piece of coffee filter and fold it into a portion.

    Good luck!

EDIT: Oh yeah, shipping will be fine. We have a lot of UK members here, but I'm not sure if a VAT and EU Tax will be levied by customs upon arrival.

Quick reply, thanks! Yeah 3 tins cost me around £15/$24 with taxes and VAT and all that included. The idea of home-made portions sounds great, may make things a little easier too!

Main reason I jacked smoking was the actual smoke part, plus the cost! As for nasal snuff, I've never been a fan of things going up my nose! My girlfriend was always moaning, but when I mentioned snus to her, she actually seemed interested and said she may try some! (Shes as drug-free as they get). Once I get through these 3 cans, depending on my financial situation and experience I'll probably move onto rolls and order in bulk to save money. Maybe even use the bonus points (which is great by the way) on northerner to get an icetool or more snus

EDIT: The 3 tins themself cost me $8 but with tax and VAT ($11) and postage $5 it came to around $24! Damn this country.

        Welcome to Snuson!!

LD's my second favorite lös. It's probably not the best to learn to handbake with, but you should do ok.

Oh, I'd also like to mention if you haven't already noticed, a can of los snus gives you more than twice the snus than a can of portions. It's like the same difference between tailor made cigarettes and rollies. It's a great bargain!

Thanks, I'd hoped I'd be getting more for my money!

Few more questions though, if I havn't hassled you enough

Storage? Whats the best place to store unopened and opened cans? Most threads say freezers or fridges with zip-bags or airtight containers.

How long do you keep a typical pris in use for? Also, best way to dipose of it? In the bin? Down the toilet? I want to avoid "mud-mouth" which I first experienced partially when I tried it for the first time!

Fridge for short term storage, freezer in bags for long term.

I keep mine in for 1-2 hours, with 75 minutes being average.

Spit it in the trash, sink, or toilet; it doesn't really matter. You get better at controlling the snus with time, but you may have some running problems at first. Time should fix that up though.

Okay, I'll give this a go. Oh, and btw, don't ever hesitate to ask! We at SnusOn are a helpful bunch, and no matter how many new snuser threads we see, we'll always be willing to help.

Personally, I keep all snus that's not open in the freezer in a zip-loc bag which I've removed the air from with a straw. It keeps very well, as long as you don't keep re-freezing it. I don't use los very much, but I keep it in as long as it's not falling apart. You could dispose of it pretty much any way you like: Spit it on the window, feed it to a cat, flush it down the pan, into a napkin or sink. Mud mouth is a fact of life when you're new to los. The best advice I can give you is to refrain from playing with the pris. Don't poke at it too much, don't laugh or smile widely. Refrain from drinking until you've got managing a pris down well.

                Hope this helped!

                  Welcome to Snuson Urko23

Ask any question you can think of, truly what we are here for and we LOVE questions, makes us feel useful and all that.

As for storage, I am plain lazy. Unopened cans in the freezer naked. No bags, no silly work. Open cans by my bed or on my desk at work. If I am using it alk the time, never gets cold again after I open it. For los or portions I may use once or twice a day, that lives naked in the refrigerator.

Yes, I know many folks where who have this big, complex, vacuum sealed routine. But honestly, in two and a half years of using, I have never had a bad can out of the freezer. Snus left for several months in the refrigerator already opened will dry out. But there are even tricks for that, an apple slice in the can for example will bring it right back

As for disposal, los always goes in the toilet. Just too messy for the trash can. Portions go in either the trash or the toilet. And in any greenery I can find if Ii am out and about. About the only place i won't dispose of a portion is on the sidewalk. That is just wrong for me and I hear a big problem in Sweden. So I will wait until I have better or use the snus storage in the can.

                    Welcome,

You shouldn't have a problem getting snus delivered to the UK, apart from the price! Delivery is expensive and Swedish VAT will make your eyes water!. I buy from The Northener and Buysnus and all orders have come through without hassle.

Another UK snusar excellent, prob makes about 5 of us now, pretty exclusive hey?

Like Pete says, once you've paid the tobacco tax and vat (25%)in Sweden there's no more to pay, no duty on snuff in the UK. Totally legal just not allowed to be sold in the EU.

Pricey, yes but soooo much cheaper than fags. I think you can order up to 6 cans for the same postage cost.
                      Envy Yanks ordering rolls

Delivery from Buysnus/Northener no problem, eg. order on a tuesday it normally arrives next tuesday. No customs label as we are all in the EU. Postie must wonder what's inside cos the parcel smells really strong.

I use los and keep a prilla in for anything between 15 min to 2hr.

Baking: make a small prilla (7-8mm dia), take a pinch of snus and mould it into a ball not too hard using the thumb and 1st fingers of your left and right hand.

Storage: Dont stress, keeps for ages in the freezer (in a tupperware), snus in use I keep in the fridge.

Give los time and you will master it, be patient it will happen, but dont expect to like it straight away.

I admire your los usage. I tried a few cans but inevitably it ended in disaster, didn't matter what I did, hand bake, icetool, I can't seem to get the hang of it. No patience I suppose.

I have ordered a few rolls and the cost is OK, as you say way cheaper than fags.

I think there a quite a few closet snusers in the UK, when the postie arrived with my last delivery he had another Buysnus pack in his bag, he wouldn't show me the address, but I know there is someone else nearby.

Oh come on Sage, it can´t be worse than Raleigh?

But seriously I´m not really familiar with that problem, sure you can see snus on the ground if you really look for it, but honestly it´s nothing I notice generally, no worse then cigarette butts, thats for sure.

When I´m out walking in the town or wherever and dispose one I generally toss em into bushes or a trashcan, very rarely onto the street. Then again I´m a good boy

In Sweden, what's used mostly, portions or los?

Sage might have been thinking of India and all the pan betel nut spit of red spots that I read is all over the place.

I think Portion, but never thought too much about it, in rural areas lös is probably more common.
